Default 8830 freezes once and a while

Please Login to Remove!

I can be doingsomething and it just freezes all keys for 30 seconds and shuts down and comes back appearing to reset with the hour glass followed by the Verizon start up logo.

Anyone seen this before? Not a big deal but a big waste of time.

Is the device still under warranty? If so take a trip to the store and exchange it. Otherwise, you might check to see if you are low on memory although I haven't heard a lot of issues with your model. Menu>options>status (what is your file free?)

Dublin, huh? My old stomping grounds as a kid!

Hey Chuck,

I don't think thats the cause it's not that low but you could still improve it with the link below. Check it out and see if that helps. But seriously if you can exchange the device I would. I wouldn't tolerate random reboots! Is there anything in particular that you are doing when it happens? BB Messenger? Phone call? If you have had it a while your battery may be going.

Chicago is a neat city but I'll bet it's freezing right now!

OK, thanks for the advise. It usually happend after I have accidently pushed the voice command button. I never use it and odn't even know how to use it but it usually freezes after I have done that.

I really can't get rid of much memory. I have 9200 contacts so that's where most of it went. I may have to go to a memory card at some point in the future.

its prolly cuz you have 9200 contacts im guessing that RIM would use a sql script with voice command to search for contacts based on voice recognition so thats prolly why it freezes up. an sql script that is searching for a specific item searching multiple criteria on a device that is not as powerful as a full blown server for which the script was intitially intended to run.

being inpatient and in a hurry, stopping an large sql inquery like that would cause it to freeze, logically speaking. and it would work in theory if cpu usuage is low. it all depends on whats running and what their order is to connect to the local server.

The BB doesn't have SQL.
It doesn't run SQL scripts.

I am also experiencing the same problem, starting approximately 2 weeks ago. I'll use the phone, set it down on the desk and look over to see the LED red and the screen black. The phone will not reboot on its own, however. I sometimes have to take out the battery and/or keep the power button depressed. No user action seems to cause the problem. I've tried wiping the device but it was unsuccessful. I'm not running much in the way of third-party apps (GMail, Google Maps, GChat, Yahoo Messenger and Bloomberg Mobile), and nothing new since the trouble started. The real annoyance is that since I don't know what causes it or how to replicate it, Verizon said they won't replace it. So, as you can imagine, any help would be greatly appreciated in either isolating the problem or solving it altogether.

Here is other relevant info:

Platform: 3.0.0.79
App Version: 4.2.2.176 (339)
File Free: ~16mb
