Holster or Pocket?
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all,
I don't have a Blackberry yet and the 8700g is one of the finalists (next to the Pearl). One of the things that I'm concerned about is the size. I'm not a personal fan of a holster/belt clip, so I would carry it in my pocket 100% of the time. I'm just curious to see how many use a holster or carry it in their pocket. Comments on both are welcome, but I'd like to hear what the pocket carriers have to say (if there are any!).
Thanks!

I use holster because I don't want to put my 8700 in my pocket because i don't want the screen to get scratches. If you don't like carrying holster then I suggest you gettin the pearl because it's small and easy to carry.

I used to keep the holster on me, but seeing that it's almost always in my hands, I don't bother anymore. I keep it in my hand and only when needed, I place it in my pocket. Side pocket on pants, back pocket on jeans.
I have Best Skins Ever on it to protect it, so no worries... just try remembering picking your pocket of any lint. Dunno if it's just me, but I had some get into the gap of my trackwheel, so I check for that now.

I'm a holster guy. In my pants pocket the 8700 was a bit heavy and made my pants flop around when I walked. Also gets a lot of lint inside.

Holster except on weekends if I'm wearing shorts without a belt. My 8700c has an Invisible Shield on it. Definitely don't put ANYTHING else in that pocket. Even on 7290's and other older models you could easily gouge the screen with keys/change/etc.

Definitely holster...I'm the type of person that can't stand things in my pockets (very little at least.) Plus, I like the quick access that I have to the BB by having it holstered.

Yeah girlfriend says the same thing here too. Except she only has to see me with it on my hip for about 10 minutes a day so she can deal with it. I just tell her that I cant stand when she wears a certain belt with certain pants. She leaves me alone about the holster real quick.

pocket.
buy a screen protector if you are worried about the screen getting scratched. they have ones that stay on tight, aren't obtrusive, and still protect the screen.
i cant post links, but do a search for screen protectors. i have one from martin fields and it's amazing.

I use a holster for my 8700g.
But if you go with an 8700, and want to keep it in your pocket, here's an idea that works great:
take the plastic 'holster' that comes with the 8700. Should be just a plastic "launcher" holster with a swivel clip.
Take some pliers and twist the clip until it pops out of its hole in the middle.
Then you can just use this as a holder to make the device go to sleep, and without the clip on it, it fits great in a pocket because it doesnt add much size.
It also protects the screen and saves battery life.
If you do this, you'll have a "hole" in the middle of this new holder where the clip used to be. What I did is I cut the circular piece of plastic away from the clip (the circular piece that held the clip to the holster). I superglued the circular piece to the hole to cover it up.

If you buy an 8100, you'll definately have to buy a holster separately because it's the first BB that doesn't come with a holster.

Can't say that I'd ever put my bb in my pocket...I'd probably crush it.
