Default WES - expecting more?

Please Login to Remove!

I admit, I never even heard of WES until I read this forum. In the days leading up to the show, however, I was expecting big news to break. Perhaps I misundestood, and the news was the arrival of the 8300 from AT&T and others - announced prior to WES.

Is there more news to come? Do the carriers or RIM announce availability? Have I missed WES coverage?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Did you go to any of the carrier parties? Like the Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, or T-Mobile party on Wed night? That's where all the 'good stuff happened'. Although, I was a little disapponted this year. This is my 3rd WES and it has definately outgrown the Marriott. And unfortunately the content of the breakout sessions was a lot of fluff, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still learned a lot, but most of that was just from networking with peers.

I did buy a Bluetooth digital pen, so that will be fun to play with.

Actually, I did not attend WES. I was just wondering about what news, if any, was generated. I believed when reading the pre-show teasers, that RIM and other developers used the show to announce new products.

No new information seems to have been announced - at least that I have seen on this forum.

What pen did you get?

WES is not a news oriented press release laden show. It is filled with sessions, seminars, roundtables and keynotes. There are no big splashy press conference with RIM holding up 8300s.

The carriers do all that work. And they did it BEFORE WES this year.

Well, that explains it! I thought it was more like CES with Mickey Mouse instead of dancing girls.

It's an enterprise-focused conference based around the BES, so the consumer and device information was only available from carrier representatives at the afterhour dinner shows (or on the Solutions Showcase floor). There's rumors that the 8300 was announced pre-WES so that RIM employees could easily show up at the event without concern for switching to other devices or keeping their 8300's hidden. There was a HUGE presence of the Curve at the event.

The big announcements and previews were centered around the road map of the various features and enhancements within the BES architecture over the next year.
