Well maybe for YOU but not for all of us...

Left side is indeed an option but I am using it for contacts which I use much more frequently than lock.

Using the Lock Icon of course works and this is what i use now to lock my BB.

Pressing K offers to assign a speed dial!

Of note the top button used to password lock the device when I was using OS 4.6.X.X

Default Disable 'Dial from Home screen' to enable 'K' key for lock

I am running v5.0.0.592 and can confirm that the password lock using the 'K' key works again (which did not in earlier version after .411). To enable the fast keys like 'K' you need to disable 'Dial from Home Screen' in the General Options of the Phone Options.

Not sure if this was posted before, but this is what I found. Please try it out..

1) Check the time limit set on your device for locking the keyboard under Options>Password. Lets say you have it as 1 min.
2) Lock the keyboard using the'lock' button
3) Try to unlock after 1 min (or whatever time you have set under options>password)
4) It asks for the password
5) If the device is tried to unlock before the time set, it unlocks without asking for a password.

So, the password becomes functional ONLY at the timeout set by you.

Default solved

before upgrading my BB 8250,

i am able to hold on to A key and my phone password locks automatically.

after upgrading,

when i hold on to A key, it keypad locks.

difference is,

password lock enables me to key in my password when i want to unlock it.

keypad lock just requires me to press the mute button to unlock unless until password lock activates after the preset 2mins.

solution:

go to Options
Screen/Keyboard
Left Side Convenience Ky Option
Choose Password lock

so it password locks ur phone when u press the left side button.
