Default 9700 water damage / unable to restore

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all.

had a series of unfortunate events the past few days and am wondering if anyone here can help.

first of all, i fell into a pool over the weekend and in my pocket was my 9700. completely soaked, the whole 9 yards. i took it out right away and threw it in rice, took it apart (battery etc). waited a day and nothing. tried turning it on and it didnt work. I just recently tried to turn it on and the flash at the back of the 9700 is on and very bright (what does this mean??). Is there any chance of me salvaging this phone?

second, i thought it wasnt the end of the world because my brother has his old 9000. So i took my sim card out and am now using the 9000. Problem is, its his old pin and has his old bbm contacts and address book contacts. Further, i backed-up my 9700 about a month ago on blackberry desktop manager. So i tried to restore the file to my 9000. When i plugged in my 9000 to the computer, the computer makes a sound as if it recognizes it, but the desktop manager doesnt, therefore i'm SOL with a restore.

I called my wireless provider (Rogers) and they said they pretty much cant help me out because it is out of their scope. Called blackberry (RIM) and they said they could help me, at a cost of 49.00. I dont know if i want to pay for that or not...can't really make up my mind. I've tried a lot of different things, but im having a real problem just letting my bb desktop manager recognize the 9000.

If anyone can help, either trying to fix my 9700, or trying to figure out how to restore my 9000, it would be greatly appreciated.

Petar

If you only left it in the bag of rice for a day and then turned it on, you probably did further damage. It usually takes 4 to 5 days to dry completely.

Delete DM from the PC and do a clean reinstall. See the sticky at the top of the BB help section on "if your BB and DM will not connect" or a similar title.

Leaving the battery in was not good. You may be in for a new BB
