Yea I'm not to sure I get the point of a keyboard designed like this... is it supposed to easier on the thumbs for crackberry addicts? Seems to me that angling the keys might make it worse
...using a M$ ergonomic keyboard on a PC that is split in half like that is a PITA.
I've always found the ergonomic keyboards to be extremely comfortable to use. After working on an ergonomic keyboard for a while a standard flat keyboard feels very cramped. I'd be very interested to see what can be done with an ergonomic-handheld keyboard. The question in my mind is: how will the QWERTY layout translate to the angled keypad?
It's very doubtful that they would have a patent published to the USPTO website prior to the release of the actual device it would be used on. This seems to be more of an R&D patent that will never see the light of day (but it's still good to get the patents for these sort of endeavors, and RIM does this quite a bit). Honestly, snooping on the USPTO website for patents is a "fun" way to pass some time (I've found myself doing just that), but it rarely will reveal anything resembling useful information that pre-dates a device/product launch.

I'd say that keyboard is definitely more ergonomic. Check it out, hold your BB and move your thumbs back and forth. The keys on this new board are in line with the lines your thumbs transcribe.

that patent was filed in June, 2006 according to the image. probably a design that was never implemented and has long been in the garbage bin. that said, I'd love to try it out
