Facebook is all about web2.0. Email, phones, and SMS are sooo 2003.
Not to say that web2.0 appeals to the mature demographic or the tech un-savvy. Yep, email and SMS are fine. web2.0 apps are a richer experience.
My beef with facebook is that it's unforgivably clunky. Not well integrated at all. They need a User Experience guru to tighten it up. Maybe if Google buys them out they'll get the whole cross-contextual linking thing down. You know, like in a G-app, if there's a piece of information (text) that you should be able to click on to do something at all relevant, you can. And they get an annoying amount of press coverage.
