Default I wish: back up BB on Media card

Please Login to Remove!

I wish RIM could enable this and we will have to worry less that a BB got lost in travel because in that case I would love to keep my backup file, download links (OTA) etc.

When I had a Treo [shudder the thought] I remember an application I had (can't remember the name of it though) that did just that! Complete backup and restore from the SD card...

well, you could place the backup file on your bb microSD....have to use the computer though....guess that kind of defeats the purpose. It would be sweet to be able to bkup everything to the card, and then restore without the use of a pc.

Not to worry, the upcoming 10100 series device is reported to have this feature.

next best thing...back up your device using the DM, take the backup file and copy it to the SD card.

what's the point of backing up directly to the SD card ? the card is behind the batt, you'd have to take the batt out every time you need to get to the card. i can see this working if you were "aiming" to lose your phone and you removed your SD card ahead of time. but if you accidentally lost the phone, then you'd lose the SD card with it....and your hopes of restoring another bb with that backup file which you just lost, which is now in the lost phone.

is this confusing enough ?

now what would be 'truely' cool would be to backup directly to an online service....

The idea would be, since SD cards are basically dirt cheap, you have a second packed away, with the backup on it. I travel a good bit, I don't use a laptop, so for the security of mind, it would be nice. Which, since you mention it, so would especially an online backup!

peopl do not mind having just one MicroSD card with all the apps and tools and backup file itself on it. so in case everything is lost MICROSD will save the life and make the pain go away much easy.

Back up to online: this could be scarry because RIM will never be able to do it. they are all about security so that may not be a foreseeable option.
