File a complaint with a Bell office. It clearly says on the website "no charge". This must be the store trying to make a few extra dollars without approval.

In any event, I chose not to pay.... Any of you have the same problem elsewhere???

I figure that sooner or later, the propore "tools" will be posted.

I will be calling other stores to see if they have the same 15$ policy.
I got mine done for free!!! I would suggest calling Bell and reporting this store since it doesn't look like they are following the rules.

btw - I got mine done at 7357 Woodbine in Markham - 15 minutes tops, no errors, and everything works great.

Mike.

Even though they "flash" it, no data is lost, is it (emails, calendar, etc)?

In the mean time I have no phone and no email to the device.
Same answer received when I called their data call center. I asked them if they had the same problem with other customers and they told me that unfortunately it happens 1 in 100 (so I was the 100 customer).

Be careful with this upgrade even if it is done on a Bell store.

thx.

I must have just missed you. When I went to Woodbine they'd mentioned that they had messed up 2 bb's doing the upgrade

Maybe it was me you just missed

I took in two 7250's to the Woodbine store this morning, and both of them had no data connection afterwards. The store staff advise it is a "known problem" for units over 5 months old. Half an hour on the phone with data support (they said removed the bb's from the network and added them back), and both are up and running with 1XEV. Very pleased with the level of support from Bell. The tech I talked to said his was the first one with the problem, and it took the team half a day to figure out the fix.

No real issues, but if this is a "known problem", I would expect the store to ask how old the unit is first, then give a disclaimer, and a chance for the customer to have second thoughts.

Now all I have to do is start kicking the wheels.

My unit is getting close to 10 months old now, so I expect I may have the same problem. Have you tried connecting to the Blackberry with Voyageur, and does it work? I know with my Blackberry it won't even detect it as a modem (not error 19 like it seems the newer ones are getting). I'm hoping this fix will get it working.

Regards,
Jeff Wickenheiser

UPDATE!!!

After i had my blackberry updated yesterday unsuccessful, I called several times DATA from Bell and they where unable to solve my problem.
Every time the answer was the same “4 to 24 hours to get the system up to date".

I called then customer service and i told them that i will like to cancel the service since they (Bell) cannot provide me the service that i signed for.
They passed the call to a supervisor that contact the technical support and they did the "SYSTEM UPDATE" again.
In 30 seconds the unit was working on 1XEVDO.

Make sure that you insist to cancel the contract since they cannot provide the service.

Hope that this will help other people.

Take care.

That might be what they need to call to reactivate the phone on the network (since the flash that part of it it seems).

That's a load of crap c/o Bell. My BBerry is almost a year old. No issues with the 1XEV update, 15mins - 10 of which was spent watching my BBerry reboot

We will see what happens. I can't wait for the Calgary stores to install the update on their computer (so much for them being ready May 5).

Now I wonder when my home will be in the EVDO coverage area

Any one have the "inside track" on Bell's upgrade plans for EVDO enablement in 2006?

I have the feeling I'll be in the situation. I'm JUST outside the coverage area.

Has anyone managed to get tethering working outside the EVDO area, or is it only supported in these areas?
