Question BES Email - Timed Filter 'Do Not Disturb' - does this software exist

Please Login to Remove!

When I don't want to receive any BES emails - but I still want data access for other applications - I manually set the BES email filter to:

Messages -> Options -> Email Filters -> If no filters apply, send email to handheld: NO

It works perfectly - but it's manual, and easy to forget to turn it back on...

What I want is to be able to set a date/hour 'timer' for this manual setting, ie:

FILTER [Send email to handheld: NO]
ON [day/date][time]
OFF [day/date][time]

eg:

FILTER [Send email to handheld: NO]
ON 24 Dec 08, 18:00
OFF 02 Jan 09, 08:00

or

FILTER [Send email to handheld: NO]
ON Friday, 18:00
OFF Monday, 08:00

Does anyone know if there is aftermarket software that will do this - or does some one want to code it?

(I've searched the forums/web and checked out Webmessenger's Message Alerts - but under Actions, there is no 'Do Not Forward to Handheld' option, or similar)

Any suggestions, directions - or offers to create a neat bit of code welcome!

Cheers, Cris

Sound like my boss. If the software exists then someone will point you to it, if it can't be done right now then there's nothing you can do.

The easiest way is to simply create a profile where emails don't trigger any notification. Oh, they have one. It's called Phone Only.

Wirelessly posted (Bold)

Adding to djm2's recommendation - once you have the profile selected, there's an app out there that can set the profile to one that you select as a calendar appt. So you can use your calendar appointment to set the e-mail notifications to go on/off corresponding to your appointment. I haven't been able to use said app because it requires changing an application permission that is locked down by my company's I/T policy.

I would still prefer a feature that my last Nokia phone had (which was about 6 years ago!) Called a timed profile. The profile had a built-in feature so that when you selected that profile, you specify the time when the profile reverts to the one that was in use just prior to the timed profile. This allowed you to turn on silent for 60 minutes - just the length of a meeting, movie, whatever - and afterwards, it automatically went back to your regular profile. Come on RIM, this is just a matter of using a function that already exists in the Clock app and just adding the ability for the clock to manipulate the active profile!

hi kjaslow - thanks, nice to get one thoughtful response to my question... yes - Nokia timed profiles rocked!

however, djm2's inaccurate comment confused the issue - my question is not about notifications - i don't want to download the emails.

i'll keep looking!

I'd love to automatically turn off the work emails on the weekend, but keep the personal account emails coming in.. I end up doing the manual thing described above when I don't feel like reading work email over the weekend.

Unfortunately, one person's "work life balance" item of doing email on weekends or late night can be a major stressor for the rest of us....

I'd certainly buy an app that would allow you to select an account to selectively schedule wireless updates on and off.
