Beejive is not bad for its price but it is still very buggy. I have so many issues with it, they are not major but simple things like renaming all your contacts and they don't stay renamed, or the LED indicator will never turn off after a message. For a paid product their support is very slow I am still awaiting for a reply to my bug list from 4 weeks ago. It works but is very young in its code base. they should reduce the cost if they are using us to harden their code.

Default Im+

I am a casual IM user, but I do like IM+ (from Shape Software) as it has the ability to switch to email mode (called IM push mode). This can save battery life:
i Upon exiting IM+, you are offered to stay online in "IM Push" mode. In this mode, IM+ on your BlackBerry is not running, thus saving precious battery life.

ii In IM Push mode you remain online in all IM services, and continue receiving IMs as e-mails pushed to your BlackBerry mailbox.

iii Your replies will be converted to instant messages and will be delivered back to your contact.

More expensive, but for me, when I am on vacation, it is one way I communicate with the office, and having the push mode allows me to be "connected" all the time without a big battery hit.

Hi there!
Besides IM+ All-in-One Mobile Messenger mentioned by Temoore SHAPE Services has one more application called IM+ for Skype
It is a fully mobile application for text communication with other Skype users and cost-effective calling to landlines and mobiles.

IM+ is also useful. You can chat within AIM / iChat, MSN / Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk and MySpaceIM with no cost per message.
