Default Wifi problem on my new Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a new Blackberry bold with NO data plan on AT&T network. I am trying to use the Wifi with no success.

I have enabled wi-fi option and have NOT enabled Mobile Network option under Manage Connections. I have scanned for n/w successfully and it did ask password for my n/w at home. Also I have saved another open n/w at work. I do connect to these networks successfully using my laptop and so the n/w SSID and password are correct.

I have changed my default browser to Hotspot browser and I have tried Data Services option to both On & off under Settings->Mobile Network with no success. When I try to connect to web page (say google.com) it says "Could not obtain IP address" or "Unable to connect to Internet. Please try later".

I do not want to rack up any per minute data charges by enabling mobile n/w option and only want to use wifi on the browser. Any ideas what else do I need to do?

Thanks much!

I've seen some fixes on the boards here , and one way i helped a user here was that we used some backed up service books from another or same blackberry model to enable it. But, i've heard some people had to request the service books and activate the data plan temporarily to do this. Others had no problem out of the box, so hopefully that will point you in the right direction.

Default MAC Address Filtering?

Maybe check if the MAC Address Filtering feature on your wireless router is enabled? And if so, add the Blackberry's MAC address to the 'allowed list'.

Default Resolved

The n/w strength was not good enough to access web pages. Somehow blackberry needs more signal than my laptop on same network.

Also Data services needs to be on for any WIFI as well.
