Default Is UMA on the 8320 carrier specific (when there are more)?

Hi,

When a phone has WiFi and UMA (like the 8320, which I love), is that programmed, or hardcoded in the phone SOLELY for T-Mo? I.e., as other carriers around the world start rolling out UMA, will a switch of a SIM switch the UMA connection for that SIM?

UMA in the US is T-Mobile Only, and I would guess it is specific.

Well, it is only with T-Mo at the moment, but, all carriers will follow suit. That still doesn't mean that you won't be pop in an AT&T SIM at the time AT&T has UMA, and the phone will just work -- or, is our particular 8320s coded only for T-Mo UMA? This is was the crux of my question in the first post.

UMA/GAN is not carrier specific. It is just a spec for running GSM packets over the internet.

TMO is currently the only carrier doing it in the US, and will likely remain the only carrier doing it for the near term. ATT is reportedly working on a different solution.

Verizon, Sprint, etc. are not compatible with GSM/UMA/GAN.

What about carriers outside of the US? Is Orange or Vodafone offering UMA or a similar service?
