I am quite confused with all these technical words. I have questions that would like to be clarified in simple english for dummy.

I was planning to buy an unlocked Storm2. Beacuse I need a bigger screen area, mines is a 8520. My carrier is T-Mobile.

Since the Storm2 is very expensive, I was planning to go with the storm1. But after reading I am confused. I understand that Tmobile is GSM and which Storm1 model runs after unlocked with GSM?

I don't have any fancy applications installed, only Pandora and Mini Opera.

What should I buy. Thank your for your time.

Rosanna, if you will be using the Storm on a GSM network, I would recommend you find a 9500 or 9520 model. I've used the 9530 on a GSM network, and it will work, but it's not easy, it can be quite frustrating, especially with streaming media applications like Pandora and Opera.

Yes. The 9520 comes with OS 5.
On the 9530, yes as well as long as you have a BlackBerry Data Plan on the device.

So it can't be done on a 9500?

Sorry to hijack, but what problems have you had with the 9530, Jsanders? I'm possibly buying one soon and I've been reading up on what I need to do to get it going on my network.

Noodle, hey, I see you've read and commented on the Sticky Thread about using the Storm on ATT or Tmobile, so you get some idea of the problems users have.

Primarily, you have fits getting the 9530 on AT&T or Tmobile to stream data, like music or video or any third party application like Viigo, Pandora, Shazam that doesn't use BIS data (or rather, that uses TCP). I suffered it and survived it for a year, mainly because I didn't mind the tinkering and experimenting with it. For the basic mail, blackberry browser, BBM, you're good.

Yeah, I read through the entire thing, and bookmarked some things like how to back up my service books, etc etc.

I'm not a big data streamer so I should be fine. I use my phone mostly for email, messaging, and reading through some news sites. I rarely stream video or radio.

So that's good to hear Thanks for your information!

Hi again, I have been searching for the 9520 and they are out of my budget. 9550 is still expensive but lower than 9520. JSanders mentioned it might be tricky to work 9550 on Pandora and streaming videos, here comes my question:

1)I have BB data plan with TMobile, and I recieve pictures on my phone (mms), applications I use are my normal emails, sms, and facebook. Can I still consider the 9550 as an option.

2)If then I also consider the 9500 can the screen scroll up and down like I have seen reviews on the 9550? Or this is done beacuse of the improved version specific to 9550?

Thnak you

1. Yes

2. Yes, with OS 5 installed, it has the "flick" scrolling.

Your are fast! Thank you!

So now that this is clarified, do I need to install in my MAC computer a new Desktop Manager software. At this moment I have the DTM installed that came with my 8520, I don't have the version of that software at this moment, I am not home until 4/18.

Do I need to do other computer setup for the tethering for the Storm. I tether on my mac with my 8520 without any problems.

You have been great.

You're speaking only for tethering? Either version of DM will do.

If you get the 9530 or 9550, you'll need a PC, and to read and follow the directions in this thread.

I just purchased the 9530. The OS System installed is : 5.0.0328 (Platform 4.2.0.128,

I followed to the link provided by JSanders, to download the TMobile service books, but in the instructions for T-Mobile, why do I have to follow step #7. What IMEI and PIN #do I enter? The one located in the 9530?

I will appreciate your help. Thanks to all in advance

Is this true? I thought the Storm 9520 ran at HSDPA 2100? Considering one but only if IT can get 3g.
