Exclamation Moving licenses from one BES to another BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!

I need some advice on licenses migration.

I have 2 BES servers version 5.

The first is connected to an Exchange 2003 server. For various reasons I could not update it to make it compatible with our new Exchange 2010 server.
So I installed a second BES 5 identical to the first but with a Mapi/Cdo compatible with Exchange 2010.
The second server uses temporary licenses.

Then I migrated the mailboxes of my BB users from Exch2003 to Exch2010 and migrated the BES accounts using the BlackBerry Enterprise Transporter.

Now I want to move the first server’s permanent licenses to the second BES server that was configured with temporary licenses.

Essentially, this is what I plan :

On the first server :
- Delete the CAL
- Stop the BES services and/or shutdown the server permanently.

Then on the second server :
- Change the temporary SRP ID and SRP Auth with the permanent ones
- Wait 4 hours (or not?) for the Blackberrys to receive the new SRP
- Replace the temporary CALs with the permanent ones

So I read that we cannot use perm CAL with temp SRP.
And also we cannot remove the last CAL, we must edit it to change it for a perm CAL.

But will I be able to change the temp SRP with the perm SRP while I still have a temporary CAL?

Thanks !
Stéphane

Did you purchase T-Support with your BES 5 server?

This might be a time to use your T-Support and call them.

Not yet.
I was going to call them and the Blackberry support site suggests asking our questions here first.

BES uses the honour system for Device CALs - it will complain everytime you log into the BAS but it won't shut down the system. As for switching SRP codes, I've never done that after installation.

yes you have to wait 4 hours, or some devices will need to be wiped before activation again.

I know a guy who had a power failure during it. not fun.

Thank you for taking the time to answer me.

Here's exactly how it was done:

On the first server :
- Stop and disable the BES services and/or shutdown the server permanently.

Then on the second server :
- Change the temporary SRP ID and SRP Auth with the permanent ones
- Wait 4 hours for the Blackberrys to receive the new SRP
- Edit the only temporary CAL and put a permanent one (you cannot delete it, you have to edit it)
- Add the others permanent CAL as usual

That's it.
