Default Q10 woes with Mac

Please Login to Remove!

My Q10 (service provider Vodafone) used to behave well with my Mac (OS 10.11.2) but I am now overwhelmed by problems which I am at a loss to deal with.

Contacts syncing: With my BB curve, I used to just back up the phone contents on my Mac. No problem. Then I got a Q10. At first, a few months ago, I learned to connect Q10 to the Mac and sync the Mac-proprietary iCal and Contacts with my phone contacts and the Q10 Calendar after connecting it by cable. They seemed to back up OK, but only in one direction (Mac to Q 10 but not Q10 to Mac) and I couldn't find out how to sync in both directions.

BB Link promised the possibility of VPN but that never worked.

Now, however, the Mac won't "recognise" the Q10 at all. Blackberry Link fires up on the Mac when I connect the phone by cable but then claims the Q10 is "disconnected". It isn't. I have tried three different cables, three different USB slots on the Mac Mini with same result. BB LInk suggests resetting to factory settings, but I have far too many contacts on the phone to risk that without back-up. The phone isn't recognised by the Mac in my office (spec above) or my old MacBook Pro at home.

Contacts (Q10) only: for some reason these breed crazily. Some of my contacts are duplicated a good 20 times and I can't fathom why.

I have posted on Macuser forums about these problems but BB owners are clearly seen there as a lower lifeform and neither my nor several earlier queries by others about similar problems have been answered.

If Q10s can't deal with Macs, can't someone just let people know?

Although nothing was listed n the BB support site these may help

Re-add the BlackBerry network interface by completing the following steps:
1.Within the menu bar, select the Apple icon
2.Select System Preferences
3.Tap Networks
4.Note the name of the BlackBerry interface listed
5.Select the Plus sign to add a new interface
6.Within the Interface drop down, select the other BlackBerry interface listed
7.Select Create
8.Select Apply
9.Restart the computer

Another

Manually sync your contacts - BlackBerry Link for Mac OS - 1.2.2

A few others

Related resources - BlackBerry Link for Mac OS - 1.2.2

Synchronization completes successfully but no information is transferred when using BlackBerry Link for Mac

Apologies for not getting to this sooner.
When I click on Network in System preferences I only see the wi-fi and cable-connected networks.

When I click on the + sign no Blackberry is in the drop-down list.

As for the Blackberry Link topic, when I open B Link it says "not connected to Blackberry BB20" and then suggests setting it back to factory resets, which as I said before, I am most reluctant to do.
Thanks for you help.

Understand the reluctance to do the reset. My only other suggestion is to try doing a search on the internet but don't identify the cell phone just use a simple search like
" Mac does not recognize connected cell phone via USB port" and see if there are any suggestions that may not require reset.

I found one for a Samsung phone doing the same thing, not seeing the phone on the USB port. Maybe if you can clear the connected issue it will help with the other issues.

Oh dear, back to square one. Thanks for your help. BTW, not one word came up in response to my queries about the same problems when I posted on Mac forums!

I talked to a friend and he indicated the MAC can have issues with the USB ports . One problem known to all computers including MAC's is the use of a port that is on a hub and not a direct USB port. Most computers offer multiple USB ports but generally only one or two are direct and not hub ports. You can try different ports and see if that helps. I know on my computer only one port is direct and the 4 others are hubs but none are marked as direct so it's a try and see.

Thing is, my Macbook at home and my Mac mini at work have the same problem with non-recognition and I've tried all the USB sockets, and don't use a hub. But, thanks.
