Am I right about this?
I paid full price for my phone but only b/c i wasn't able to get the rebates b/c i hadn't had their service for that long. BUT i was told by RIM that any manufacturing defects or anything that happens to your phone that could be attributed to RIM then RIM will handle it but if something happens like your speaker phone goes out or your phone does'nt send or receive calls then you def call lockline *which is cingulars warranty/exchange service* and they will help you out.

In my exp. if you have a pretty significant and reasonable problme with youur phone, lock line will help you out as long as there is no physical damage done. The dust issue, for example, has been both good and bad with lockline. I guess depending on who you talk to, you could be successfull or not...just keep trying

Right. Sort of like calling Toyota to warranty a Honda....

Instead of obtaining a new BB, I need to find a way of opening this sucker and cleaning myself. I am not in the mood to resend my PIN to all my buddies.

There are several posts in this thread about contacting RIM for the dust issue. Unfortunately they currently do not have any replacement devices available. People are having their devices replaced for warranty issues.

However, scratches on the screen are not going to be considered a warranty issue. They will not replace your device because it. You'll either need to pay for a new screen yourself, get a new device entirely or try some Displex. Then invest in a good screen protector.

The whole call to Cingular took about 20 minutes.

I had a similar conversation with Cingular on Friday due to dust. Approx 40 mins total but they did agree to send me a new phone vs. the bs refurbished process they started with. Supposed to have by Wed...

I have the dust problem as well with my 8700r. I purchased it Dec 1,2005.
Called Rogers this morning and the CS Rep I got had never heard about the issue. I explained to her that there have been several that have been getting dust.
She told me that she would have a new one shipped out in the next 48 hours.

Took all of 10mins. Awesome CS on Rogers end

Cheers

I just received my new unit. Can someone tell me how to make the switch from the old to the new? Do I just need to put the SIM card in the new unit, or is there some kind of registration process I have to go through with the companies BES server?

Thanks for the help. I’m especially satisfied as I was the one who started this thread some 325 posts ago.

Thanks barjohn for the contact info.

How long have you guys been waiting for RIM to contact you? I left a vm for him last thursday and no word at all. I was just curious on how long I would be waiting for this replacement.

A week with my new 8700 and no dust. My 8700 came with the updated holster.

I agree and figured as much, but thought I would bring it up anyways. Also, in my case I bought this phone from a guy who bought it from Cingular and I have the Cingular receipt with me. But I do not have cingular service and I am imagining they would still give me a hard time about it.

Thoughts?

its worth a try of course...just be persistent....and dont give up until you get what you want.

for those who are asking about getting a call back from RIM contact...it might not happen b/c they have now stopped sending out replacement devices so the issue might be on hold in RIMS eyes...call cingular or lockline as your first line of defense against dust now b/c RIM will just tell you that they aren't sending anymore out and to call cingular.

who are you calling at cingular? i was bounced around to 5 different people and definately got the feeling that none of them wanted to deal with my problem so they just transferred me to another dept/person. i want to get my unit replaced as the dust is getting so bad i can see it WITH the backlight on and I won't settle for a refurb when I just paid $350 for one 6 weeks ago.

Chances are you won't get a refurb anyway since the 8700c is so new. They probably won't have any repaired refurbs available yet.

I called the "Warranty Repair Line" @ 800-801-1101

you would be surprised...it has been my experience that they are and have been sending out refurbs for quite some time now. But you must consider this. A refurb might be just as good as a new one at this point. You run the same chance of getting another dust prone device getting a new one as you would a refurb. AND, just a thought...maybe when they refurb a device and they notice that the gasket that is causing the dust issue is messed up, they fix it...i would say a refurb is a step in the right direction at this point...

I just got my replacement from the RIM contact, shipped direct to me here in the UK.

It doesn't look much different to my old one, but the SIM slot is slightly different, the holster is different as also mentioned before. The keyboard is solid, but so was my old one. Will have to wait and see if dust appears or not.

Default Called Cingular...

So I bought my device about 32 days ago and was instructed to call the Warranty support line. They are sending a new device 1-day-air to me tommorrow. I have some cosmetic damage to the device (paint rubbed off of the corner) and I'm hoping they don't ding me for that...

I'm also hoping 'reconnecting' my device back on the network won't be as much of a pain to get tcp working as it was when I first got it

Otherwise I love my BB 8700c

Be warned about expecting to receive a "new" device.

I just received my replacement from Cingular and it's a refurb.
