Angry youmail 5.3 upgrade messed up my e-mail!

Please Login to Remove!

Well, it seems to be the most likely suspect, anyway.

This morning, as I was checking my messages, I got a little notice saying that an upgrade was available. So, I decided to upgrade, as it generally is a fairly smooth process.

After the install, it requested a reboot. So far, all was fairly normal. On rebooting however, the system hung at the T-mobile screen. A little annoying, but not unheard of. So I waited a while, in case things were going on in the background, and when nothing else seemed to happen after an hour or so, I did a battery pull. After the reboot, I got a java error message, and the system hung at the t-mobile boot screen again.

Interestingly enough, if I press the power button, I'll get a "system shutting down screen, and after the screen goes out, a power on brings the system back, but without the e-mail/messages icon. The application seems to be partially there, as my e-mail count goes up, and "today" themes show some mail headers, and I can list some messages. trying to open them seems to randomly freeze the device, and re-sending the service books does not help.

I could delete and re-install youmail 5.3, and that works for youmail, but it did not fix my e-mail app issues.

I guess when I get home tonight, I'll either re-load a backup or the entire OS via the desktop manager, and see if that fixes things.

Anyone else having problems with this youmail upgrade?
I hate not having e-mail on my 'berry!

You haven't lost your email account, it is there.

For not, just delete the Youmail app, reboot the device and see what happens.

I've had my 8900 freeze at the T-Mobile screen after a reboot but determined it was a Today theme made from the Plazmic beta. I've learned to switch to the default theme before rebooting and I've had no problem since. Once the reboot is complete, I change to my today theme and all is well until I need to reboot again and I just change to the default theme prior to rebooting. Not sure if this is the same issue you're having but thought I'd toss it out anyway.

Hmm... I hadn't considered the possibility the theme may be at fault. I'll have to try a reboot with the default theme and see what happens. (I had only bounced between 3rd party themes so far.)

I get the same deal with a today theme loaded on my 8900, but just changing themes isn't enough for me. I have to delete the theme, then redownload it after I've restarted and done my thing.

Really a PITA if you need to restart for anything...

I guess I've been lucky then. So far (knock wood) if I change to the default theme before I reboot, all goes well and I can change to the Today theme after the reboot completes. Agree, it can be a PITA.

Well, it turns out it was the theme...

And it was "hiding" a few other app icons too. At least it was easily fixed.
