I believe verizon require their tethering data plan to actually be able to tether.

I have had the tether app for several months. Tetherberry. It works great. I use it for my storm 1. Technically it violates Verizon's TOS. It is unlimited usage. Verizon only sees it as usage of the browser on the phone.

I am a regular user of Tether (formally Tetherberry). It works great! It utilize the BlackBerry Internet Service, not the VZW tether gateway. No issues whatsoever. Worth every penny of its price.

I've used Tether on a 7 day free trial. It worked well provided I had good reception. Your carrier can bill you for tethering, but I wouldn't worry unless you are consuming a GB or more of data per month. I wouldn't pay $50 as Tether goes on sale every 3-4 months on sites like CrackBerry.com

If you use a MAC then Tether only works via blue tooth. But it works awesome. Just don't over use it because Verizon will catch you and then you're screwed.

Actually, Tether works for Mac both via USB and Bluetooth.

I would love to know how you got that working because every time I try to use tether via USB it tells me it won't work because I have DM for Mac installed.

You didn't mention you have DM installed. This is a known issue for Tether, but as you have stated Bluetooth works fine in this scenario.

Tether and DM with USB are not compatible at this point. SO, in order for USB to work for Mac, the DM will have to be disabled.

Wirelessly posted

Yea like someone else said Tether goes on sale every few months. It even goes on sale through bb appworld. I got mine off appworld around Christmas time for 19 bucks. It went on sale again around Valentines day for 29 I believe. I would keep an eye out for it unless you just had to have it right now. As well as it works though its still worth it even if you have to pay the full price.

Question Tether bluetooth error - "Could not find the tether service on the device"

I bought BB Tether 1.1.0.2, now on 1.1.0.6. USB mode works fine with my BB 9550 (connection speeds ~ 1100/ 600 Kbps)
but the Bluetooth inquiry fails to connect or find the tether service on the (paired) device.

I am running the following:
- Phone: Verizon Storm 2 (9550) with OS 5.0.0.607
- Computer : Dell Latitude D630 with Win XP SP 3
- Bluetooth drivers: Widcomm 5.5.0.4400 bluetooth stack & Broadcom 2046 Bluetooth adapter (FW 2.2.14.818)

First I successfully connect the BB 9550 to PC via Bluetooth ( phone reads "Connected to PC via Bluetooth" ).
Didn't have problems pairing with phone's tether service - My Bluetooth Places shows "Blackberry 9550 Tether, Connected (COM21)"

Then the Tether application on the PC shows the following:
1. Waiting for inquiry to complete
2. Checking for Tether on Bluetooth devices
(next I select Blackberry 9550 in Bluetooth Devices dialog that appears)
3. "Tether - Error" dialog appears: "Could not find the tether service on the device"
4. Disconnecting from Bluetooth
5. Socket error (10108)
6. Starting inquiry (and the process starts over at step 1...)

I am a advanced Blackberry and PC user with Bluetooth experience. I searched help forums online.
What else should I try? There doesn't seem to be a way to force a Tether com port other than 21, or config the app to use it. Thanks if you can help.

Try using Microsoft Bluetooth Stack instead (if your adapter compatible with Microsoft Stack).
