Default Time Display

Please Login to Remove!

As I travel around the country to different time zones my time display stays on EST. When I traveled with previous phones on Sprint (new to BB and Cingular) the time changed as soon as I turned on the phone in the new time zone. I have settings set to display Network time and when I go into Date/time settings it shows display time and network time but the display is always EST and not the current network time. Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
T

Are you getting your time from Blackberry or from Network
Options-->Date/Time-->Date Time Source?

I use to be a Sprint customer too, and traveled allot from east to west coast and liked the way the time would change automatically.

I am not sure how the BB works, because even though you can pick a network time, the TimeZone is set seperately and manually, mine is currently set to EST. If I traveled to California, I assume the network time would still be displayed in EST not PST. I don't see an option to set the Timezone based on the Network.

Maybe I am missing it and I have no plans to travel, so I can't test it.

If you set your BB to network time and then switched the timezone when you travel, the time should be correct.

From my experience, the BB on Cingular will not automatically change time zones when you do. You can go into your options and select the time zone you have travelled to but I caution you to then be careful when using the calendar function as new appointments entered while in the new time zone will change when you change the time zone back. I encounted this firsthand about a year ago. While traveling I change the time zone on my BB and not thinking scheduled a meeting for later in the month when I would be back in my normal time zone. When I returned from my trip and changed my BB time zone back the appointment time shifted by an hour. I have found it easier to change my watch than to think about entering appointments in a different time zone.

I currently have it set to Network and my Time Zone to EST. In settings it show the Newwork time but the display time above is still tied to the EST time zone not the current network time. I've also tried the blackberry time setting but tha did not work either.

So do I have to manually reset time zone?

BB's and Smartphones will not automatically change the time to match the zone, as that would affect all the appointmentts stored. Yes, before I went first to Smartphone and then to BB, I liked the fact that the time would change automatically, but I also found that it is no big deal to make the change in my head. So, the answer is short of third party applications, and WebIs makes one for the PDA, you will need to make the change manually.

Not true - the Treo always shows the right time and time zone. And the Treo's calendar app has an option to schedule appointments in the "home" time zone, so they don't move when you change time zones.

The blackberry calendar works just like Microsoft Outlook's calendar. If you are on EST normally and you have an appointment in LA at 10:00 a.m. PST, next week, you should put it on your calendar at 1:00 PM EST (which is 10:00 am PST). When you arrive in California, you can change the time zone on your Blackberry to PST, and your meeting should show on your calander as 10:00 a.m., the time zone you are in.

My statement stands for the reason stated. The Treo has allowed for that. Other Smartphones haven't.

Makes the Treo look smarter. As a business tool, this is big shortcoming for Blackberry. Are all Blackberry models like this?

I thought that the network time update was carrier dependant ? I am fairly certain that T-Mo does not support it. (?)

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Why not just set the time zone on the event in your calendar?
