Why would you have to edit the Blackberry.alx file? I have upgraded and down graded to almost every version that's available without doing this.

Thanks,

Doug

You must do this in order to get any new themes.

Default Os

Hi, I have a question.
I feel fairly knowlegable about the BB, at least the basics but not this particular subject. What exactly is the O.S. (Operating system). Are there choices for the 8700g? Which one is best & where do you download it. I see many postings about Telstra etc.. The only download I ever do is the one availalble through the T-mobile website. Any help would be greatly appreciated on this subject.

Thanks

How do I get Bharti. Why do you like over other ones. Where do I check for my OS?

Why would TMo or Vod or Cingular have themes on other each others software? Simple because all the software is basically standard for all carriers made by RIM, not the carrier. There are just a few minor tweaks to each. If you delete the Vendor.xml file to install the new software on your device(say cingular software onto a TMo device) you'll unlock all of those themes.

EDIT: Already answered above. I'll emphasize that it's important to note that these releases are CREATED by RIM. Just because a certain provider "releases" it before another means nothing.

First, learn to search. There are oodles of threads dedicated to all the steps that get you to this point. This is not the thread to start bringing up basics that are covered elsewhere in the forum. Please don't start hi-jacking the thread.

To check for your current OS, go to Options>About

If you have an 8700g, it's the same buildout (.284) as Bharti's. I don't suggest you update anything.

Again...use the little red search button above. It will help you find your other answers.

OK - I loaded it too:

Looks good.

It seemed to fix the problem/conflict I was having in .309 between Content Protection and the three new service book entries for Googletalk download, Yahoo download and BlackBerry Help.

Is it just me - or has the timing on the LED coverage indicator changed?

It seems more frequent now.

On the down side: It seems the cool option under .309 that allowed me to turn off data services or restrict to home coverage is no longer available from the Network setup.

Also - when editing the Blackberry.aix manually file too allow all themes I noticed this:

Rolling Stones Zen filesets

ileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0" series="7100" _vendorID="219"

Is there a 'Rolling Stones' version of the 7100 coming? Kind of like the U2 version of the Apple iPod?

It's pretty cool that there a new one just out. Haven't updated mine yet since there are not much reviews and opinions about it. I'll wait for a little while and sure will update mine.... Go for it people !

What theme are you using? With BB Insight-Icon the number of unread messages does show.

BB Dimension-Zen. I usually like having the latest software release (the geek in me), but it's pretty annoying to have to unlock the device just to see if you have unread messages.

Let me know if anyone else CAN see the unread counter with .456 and Zen. I'll probably go back a release since I can see no improvements/fixes, etc. with .456 so far other than the BB Today theme - which doesn't nothing for me personally.

I have NEVER seen an OS package contain more than the theme it was realeased under, meaning, I have never seen TMO release an OS upgrade and it have Vodafones theme and vice versa...

And I feel I am right about that having never had happened...If I am wrong, show me.
