Default TomTom Plus Services in UK - possible with latest firmware?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Has anyone got TomTom Plus services (from a Go 500/One/XL etc) to work in the UK? Im on vodafone UK (Pearl, v4.2.1.94) but it only seems like US customers can get TomTom Plus on their Blackberry (wap.voicestream etc which I dont seem able to use over here).

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Neil

Wirelessly posted (8700: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/123)

I can't get it to work (T-Mobile UK) with an 8700g and 4.2.1.94.

I'm on O2 and have just got it working.

You need to get your Sim fully Data Enabled (They give you a second data number)
Then you need to contact your service provider and get the apn details, TomTom had got them wrong for O2, do this whilst you are getting your sim fully enabled.

I am running 4.2.1.66 from TIM since this is the release everyone else has said to use.

Update.

I installed a 2 Gig Memory Card into the TomTom and now it is working. I am now convinced that a lack of available memory may have been the cause of the problem.

Had this problem with bluetooth before on a BB7100. lack of available memory caused the bluetooth handsfree to fail.

Hi ashleyneiltaylor,

I'm on O2 as well, using 8100 with 4.2.1.96 and a TOMTOM one XL but cannot get the thing to work. Could you possibly let me know what the APN details you were given, thanks.

M10DOS

It won't work with 4.2.1.94, I have tried

You need 4.2.1.66 - I have just tried with 4.2.1.101 and it didn't work.

The apn is mobile.o2.co.uk (No User, No password)

I have version 4.2.1.93 but just can not get this working using my O2 SIM.

I'm have other software installed that uses a gprs connection using the settings in TCP so I'm pretty certain that I am set up for data as well as blackberry but could I be wrong? (I know they they use the gprs because i see it charged on my o2 bill alongside everything else).

Any help appreciated.

Blackberry settings:

TCP:
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
Have tried the following username/passwords
mobile/password
mobileweb/password
<BOTH BLANK>

I have a Tomtom 720, I have selected phone model Blackberry:8100, Country UK, Provider O2 GB.
Then it says that it is unable to set up and I leave the APN as mobile.o2.co.uk
Username/Password I delete everything and leave empty
automatic IP
automatic DNS
Dial *99#
Login script: at+cgdcont=1,"IP",mobile.o2.co.uk"
(I have also tried cgdcont=1,"IP",mobile.o2.co.uk")

Doesn't work, in fact, no data at all seems to dial from the blackberry.

Any help appreciated!

Phillip

ashleyneiltaylor is right - you really do need to downgrade your blackberry to version 4.2.1.66 for tomtom connectivity to work.

Its weird - for all of the later OS versions (and I've tried many !), the tomtom just will not pair up for traffic data connection. Only the old 4.2.1.66 seems to work.

However - even with 4.2.1.66 and my O2 data sim - tomtom traffic is so unreliable as to be effectively useless. Sometimes I get complete traffic updates - (solid green dot) - and other times - I get the red screen message - that connectivity to tomtom has been lost.

Various combinations of resetting the phone & tomtom don't seem to help.

I tried contacting O2 blackberry support desk - but they haven't helped - and now seem to just to ignore my emails.

So I've given up for the moment - until a new tomtom firmware &/or blackberry firmware appears that sorts this whole mess out properly.

Julian
