So we are now 60(61) days outside of Jim Balsilie's comments of having native e-mail app on the PlayBook.

Did he mean 60 business days? Currently for that we are at 51 business days passing.

If we are lucky we see and update today, if not then we would have to see it on June 30th.

June 30th being the end of the month, almost seems for plausible for some reason.

Do you think we're getting these features soon as promised? Or is it another poor execution?

Based on the recent quarterly call, I wouldn't try and pin down a date that native e-mail will show up on the PlayBook. It sounded like a lot has been pushed back a bit.

With ANY tech company, including Apple (who is hitting on all cylinders right now) a promised date for a feature/software release is never anything more than a rough estimate. And all these things are subject to last-minute glitches and the need for tinkering to get it right. And anyway RIM has 11 more days to make that arbitrary deadline.

I remember beingback stage at a MacWorld event years back when Steve Jobs announced a date for the release of the next version of Mac OSX. He pulled the date straight out of his butt, and when he did so all the software folks backstage gasped and bolted for their laptops and cell phones. "What did he just say??!!" "Oh my God?? Is he crazy??!!" and other things like that were echoing around the backstage area. He blind-sided his entire software team, but it lit a fire under their butts and got them to kick efforts into overdrive. His Steveness' wrath is a legendary fearsome thing and nobody wanted to tell him it couldn't be done. You can bet they were burning the midnight oil in the basement of 1 Infinite Loop until they got the new OSX version out the door!

Balsilie's date could have been a case of motivation for his software development team, or it could have been the projection of an overly optimistic department head afraid to give the boss the bad news (especially considering the current state of affairs at RIM) that they needed more time. Or it could be accurate and we'll actually see the native email client in 11 days.

From all we have seen so far I would say this is the most probable option!

i don't see how they can release a native mail app until the device can have a unique PIN. how in the world would a native email app interact with a BES with out this.

now, if we are just talking about an app that i can enter owa / gmail / yahoo info into, i could wait for that forever.

Huh?
The PlayBook does have a unique PIN. That's the problem. Both the BB and PlayBook have unique PINS. And BES can only use one.

Whatever problems RIM is facing now, product or financial performances are due to actions or in-actions 2 or 3 years ago. It will take them at least 12 months to fix some of the major problems with their products' functions and attractiveness.

It's sad to see them slide, as I have been a stronger support of BB.

BPAS will support PlayBook on BES and the BES CAL will support 1 phone and 1 playbook aka 1 user CAL.

It is not out yet, but is coming.
