So I just got my Pearl yesterday and I love it. It's so much better than my old phone hands down, but I'm having a small problem. It seems as though emails aren't pushed. Heck, they don't even arrive within 30 minutes. I'm using Google Apps and thought I read that Google mail is push. Am I mistaken?

Must say that it is much easier typing out a forum post on this keyboard than a standard keypad.

Are you just using the GMail application or did you set up your GMail in the BIS system using the 'setup internet email' icon? If you're just using the GMail application then those emails aren't push at all. You have to open the app and "check" for email. The other method is push.

I have it set up through BIS. There's been a message in my inbox on the Gmail servers that has still not been delivered. Unless there is some weird filter set is that I have no clue about.

GMail has been slow as of recent. Not sure what the problem is but it's been going on for several weeks. If that email was there before you set up the account it will never go to the handheld.

I know that stuff I received earlier won't show up. I've missed two emails now. Nothing critical but still, I bought this for the push email. Just some server trouble I suppose. I still love this thing though!

I switched my settings to IMAP and now it's instant, if not really close to instant.

Never mind, it's about a five hour delay sometimes. Hmm... Wish I could transfer my mail to Yahoo

Actually switched to another workaround: Forward my Google-hosted mail to GMail (which is instantaneous) and then have my Gmail account send mail as my Google-hosted account.

Makes me happy.

I found the IMAP settings provided by Google worked, but it make response time VERY slow. I told BIS to use POP and it has been quite speedy for me ever since. It is pretty much instantaneous now. Not ideal as I'd love to use IMAP but I think in time IMAP support from GMail will be better. Until then, POP does the job nicely!

I switched over to Gmail because of all the praise it got here. In the last few weeks, it's taken anywhere from 30mins to 5 hours to recieve emails. today, I haven't recieved anything in the past 12 hours despite numerous attempts to resend service books, battery pulls and deleting the account.

I may be the lucky one, but GMail push is still fast for me. Fast it was, fast it is.

I've only had the curve a few days and set up my gmail in the BIS system. I'm absolutely amazed how instantaneous it is. I've done tests and as quickly as I click the send button from my work mail and other mail providers the phone notifies me that I have mail waiting. I'm impressed by both BIS & GMail.

I set up gmail on the BIS system for personal e-mail accounts. I also have all my work e-mail automatically forwarded to another gmail account which I set up to use the gmail push software. That way I don't have to be notified every two seconds that there's mail waiting from work.

The best of both worlds.

I thought I had my Gmail problems solved last week. My initial setup was through BIS and POP. I'm still a new BB user and the delays drove me nuts, so I tried IMAP. Still no luck, maybe even worse, so I went back to the BIS/POP setup. Everything seemed fine for a few days, but now it's 50/50 whether my mail is instantaneous or not. Some still take an hour or more to come through.

One work-around is change your gmail settings and forward all mail to your BB email address. Always instantaneous for some reason, even when "direct" Gmail is not. Of course, you'll get a nuisance duplicate message on your BB when the "official" message finally shows up.

FWIW, I experimented with Yahoo and never experienced any delays. I don't think deleting/re-installing Gmail on BIS is the answer. For now, I'll accept the delay and hope Gmail has a solution in the near future. It seems to me the problem is on their end.

Mine are beginning to be instant again. The last 20-30 I've received have been instant. *crosses fingers*
