I can't say for all carriers, but it's certainly true for Nextel. If your BB is accessing data, the call goes straight to VM.

I'm on Cingular, and my phone rings when I get a call in the middle of drafting an email. I answer the call by pushing the track wheel, and the unit immediatly returns me to my email message. I can even continue typing my message while I'm on the call on my earpiece. I've never tried sending the email while I'm on the call though. But I also get calls through when I'm surfing the web, though.

Hey Dawg -- how ya doing?

More than likely when your surfing that web at the moment you got a call you werent transferring data. When surfing you arent constantly transferring only when you load a new page once its loaded no more transmission. Same with email only when you send or receive one does it actually transmit which takes hardly any time. But what I am wondering about anybody receive calls while using telenav??? Also is it possible to sync with Microsoft Money???

From what I have heard no carrier will have the ability to simultaneously handle data and voice until the networks are upgraded to 3G.

Because data is sent in packets, there is no need for a consistent data connection open you can use the phone and receive calls when there is no active transfer happening right at that moment. Phone calls need a constant connection, making it impossible for you to send or receive data.
