Default What Setting To Make Incoming Call Priority On A 7130e

Please Login to Remove!

What is the setting for making an incoming call priority over surfing the web? I can't seem to find the setting on my 7130e. Thanks.

Doesn't that happen automatically? I don't think I've made any changes to my 7130e in this area and incoming call do get thru when I'm surfing.

RonM, not on my 7130e. I'll be surfing the web and when I close the browser, I'll have a voice mail. Maybe there is something wrong with my BB.

I have the 7100g and when I was try to download a file OTA, I received 3 calls during the process that interrupted me. That has always been my understanding that calls couldn't get through when on the web, but it happened to me.

Did a test. I launched the web browser and then used my desk phone to call my BB. Sure enough, the call came thru. On other Verizon phones I've owned browsing prevented the receipt of calls but not on my 7130e.

If you are in an EVDO area the call should go through while browsing. If you in a 1X area it will go to voicemail.

Sorry that is not the case with my 7130. I'm in a 1X area and if I'm on the internet the phone calls come thru. just fine. And I hope it stays that way. I don't like missing calls.

Arrow CDMA is different than GSM

Right- so on CDMA you can't do data and voice at the same time as the network uses the same "channels". This is not true with GSM. So on the 7130e, CDMA, there are many known cases when you will be doing a "data" session (could be browsing or just sending/receiving email) when Voice calls will be directed to your voice mail. This is one of the big disads of the BB on CDMA networks.

On GSM networks, it doesn't work that way and you can do both simultaneously. That's why the 7100t, 7100g, 8700x, 7290 etc don't have that issue.

I did a few more experiments on my 7130e and it really is a matter of "simultaneous". For example, if the web page is just loading on the device the phone call comes in fine. If I am actually communicating with the network at the same moment a calls comes in then one of two things happened: either the call gets routed to Voice Mail or, in the case of one time when I hit refresh on the browser page, I received this interesting message on my 7130 screen:
"A voice call is currently in progress,
Browsing will not be possible until the Voice call
has ended."

The GSM BB's don't have that issue.

On GSM you CANNOT do voice/data simultaneously, it just puts the voice call as number one priority essentially, and kicks you off of data.

You are correct, however when you are on the internet you are not always transfering data. The browser requests data and then downloads it. If you are not requesting or downloading data the call will come through, but if you are requesting or downloading data the call will go to voicemail. This is in a 1X area. If in an EVDO area the call will ring the phone reguardless.
