Hello I'm new to this forum. My first post. I did a search and came up with nothing. I'm not sure if this is a hardware specific problem or not.
The problem is when you try to dial from the address book by selecting a HOME phone number and clicking the trackwheel, you select dial HOME. Everything is fine, keep in mind this is a 10 digit number. When the phone dials it automatically dials long distance with a 1 infront making it 11 digit. This is handy when it is long distance but annoying when it isn't. Any thoughts? I'm putting this out to the guru's. Thanks in advance.

That's a default dialing setting usually for the country code. Its located under Phone, Options, SmartDialing. It doesn't affect your calls or anything like that, just specifies that the call is being made in the US.

Thanks a ton. Man when you really get into the sub menus there's sure a lot of stuff on this little piece of technology. I went in and changed the setting to Unknown and that seems to cure the problem. The only problems I can fore see is having to physically dial long distance or program in long distance numbers. Thanks for the help. I don't think I would've ever found that menu.

Most US based cell phones don't need to dial 1 before the area code. However adding it doesn't have any negative effect.

In a related question, any know a hack to make it so you can dial from the address book when you go into the phone mode, like the old BBs? I hate that it immediately starts dialing numbers instead of searching the address book when I'm in phone mode. :( :(

On the 7130 if you push and hold the green (send) button it goes into address book dial mode. Just type the name. Not sure that's what you are asking about though.

Also, it will do if your own phone number is in different areas code. Like I have my phone on 408 area code but when I dial 650 number it will still dial with +1 even though both area codes are within 15 miles to each other.

Again, it doesn't matter. It's generally best to dial an area code when using a cell phone and the addition of +1 prefix doesn't hurt anything. How it is dialed doesn't change how it is billed. The systems are smart enough these days to handle the details.
