Please I don't really knw why AT&T blackberry torch phones don't have 3G only as a mobile network option just 2G and 2G&3G as options. Pls help, how do I unlock this option cos am tired of using 2G&3G cos of most of the time it stays on EDGE. Is there anyway out?
Thanks

If you were to be able to switch to 3G only (which is not possible) you would have mostly no service in an area where there is mostly just Edge. That's the reason devices do not have the 3G only option.

Wondering why this bothers the OP. It allows the best possible service based on the available coverage and cell site capability.

ATT is currently set (in most areas) to hand DOWN from 3G to 2G if you are making a call. This leaves more resources for DATA on UMTS. Text MSG's try and go 2G if possible also. These are all carrier settings that they adjust in response to traffic demand. Keep in mind that 3G UMTS is 100% a noise driven network You can have signal from multiple sites but if the signal to noise is too high you will not setup a connection.

In my case it does serve a useful purpose to be able to lock it on 3g only. Edge service is barely usable at my house, but 3g works great (1 bar if you're lucky on edge, usually upwards of 3 bars, sometimes full service on 3g). I use the e screen to do it.

I'm up here in Anchorage, Alaska on 4G with AT&T… 9860

My phone came that way.

I don't really know too much about cell phone service – cell towers/signal strength or anything of that nature, but…

Maybe location has something to do with it? I don't know, like I said.

It is very bad form to hijack another users thread..
IN any event, you can't load OS7 onto the 9800.
OS6 is the latest - http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...languages.html

P.S. It is very difficult for adults to read text. English is much easier.
