how do i convert lat/long to grid reference?

Does the first hit answer your question? On first glance it looks like there are different grid references.

By the way, are looking for a tool to use on the BlackBerry, or just the general knowledge? For what it's worth, I've never come across such an app, but it would be worth your time scanning down through the GPS forum here.

There are 2 such apps on AppWorld - MyNGR (which is free and has options for 6,8 or 10 figure grid references or easting/northings and OSGB36 height) or British Grid Reference (99p and only displays a 6 fig NGR)
