On Google's support page ( Google Help Center: I get a "Netwok Unavailable" error on my BlackBerry. How do I fix this? ), they recommend deleting service book IPPP for 5 click. This didn't work the first time, but did work the second time on my friends 8703e from sprint.

Added:
They also say to go to Host Routing Table in advanced options and click register, after deleteing the service book.

Yes you can get it back by resending your service books. I was able to do it from my BB. However, I still can't get 1.53 working. I went to load it from my desktop which worked except it was 1.52 and not 1.53 :( Anyone else out there with any tips/tricks to get this working? I'm on Alltel and am using BIS.

Yes, just go to service book options and click undelete. It doesn't seem to affect any other apps so I don't think it is important.

I added more info to my post above.

Yup -- service books can be resent via your BB or your carrier's BIS site or via your carrier's data support group or via your BES admin, if applicable.

One of my bosses is having the same problem, getting the error:

"Error starting gmaps $2d153$2dm2_L1:Module 'gmaps$2d153$2dm2_L1' has verification error 2831 at offset ad6e"

He's on an 8703 from Verizon and not on a BES. I've removed the 5 click thing and chose register in the HRT menu but it still doesn't work. We're trying a 3rd re install of the software but I have a feeling it won't work either.

I just realized he is running a 4.1 OS on his 8703 so I'm having him upgrade to 4.2 first to see if that fixes it.

So if you go to google services and download from there the old google maps will load onto the 8703. Still haven't figured out how to load the new version but I'm guessing its a problem with the old OS.

Go to Google Maps on your blackberry browser. Click download.

Did you follow the instructions in this link: Google Help Center: I get a "Netwok Unavailable" error on my BlackBerry. How do I fix this? ?? That is how I got it to work on a Sprint 8703e.

the problem is not "network unavailable" its

"error starting gmps$2d153...." i'm convinced its a problem that we don't have the new OS 4.2.

I personally am nervous about loading the new OS on a verizon phone since its not approved yet.

Since 1.5.3 works on all 3 8703e phones with OS 4.1.X.X, that I have installed it on, I am quite certain that it has nothing to do with OS 4.2. If you follow the directions in the link, it just might solve the problem. Especially the first part for checking applicaqtion permissions.

Another suggestion for those who are still having issues.. I had the generic window-icon for GoogleMaps.. I decided to go to Google to find some type of troubleshooting. I ended up here Google Mobile On that page, submit your phone number and follow the message instructions. It started working for me after I selected what services I wanted to use (i.e. Maps, Search, News, Gmail).

i have been trying to figure this out all weekend.

I have tried:
1. installing google services first, then google maps
2. installing google maps itself
3. installing the minor update to 4.1
4. the network unavailable stuff (removing the service book for 5 click ippp)
5. registering the host routing table
6. hard reboots with removing the battery between all of these

i am out of ideas at this point, and am seriously agreeing with the person who said that i need 4.2

this is a sprint 8703e with 4.1

any more ideas? anyone else having this issue? any sprint user got the new 1.5.3 google maps working with GPS?

geoff

i agree with ggoss although i think his terminology is a little off. (BB OS is 4.2 not 1.4.2)

my 8703e is from verizon. the highest version of google maps that i can install is 1.5.2. this version works great but doesn't look like the new version seen in the iphone ads.

my friend who has the 8800 from verizon with the new OS 4.2 has google maps 1.5.3 and his version does look like the one in iphone ad.

i'm convinced that those who have posted here and gotten it to work on an 8703 are really running 1.5.2 not 1.5.3. or if they are running 1.5.3 its not on a verizon phone because i've done everything short of unscrewing the blackberry trying to make it work. i'd be happy to be wrong about this, i just don't think i am.

Maybe the most recent suggestion will work for others, but I just upgraded 1.5.2 to 1.5.3 on another Sprint 8703e this morning. ( OS 4.1.0.359) and it worked wihout any problems. It does not require 4.2 on any of vthese Sprint 8703e's or on my T-Mobile 8700g. You won 't get it working by looking at the wrong problem.

Default Verizon Problem????

Ok so it might not be an OS 4.2 thing, but maybe its a verizon thing. Sounds like people got 1.5.3 working on Sprint but has anyone definitely got 1.5.3 working on a VERIZON 8703? Doesn't Sprint allow GPS on the 8703 and Verizon doesn't? I'm not sure. I just know every solution posted on this site hasn't worked for me.

Also, what's really weird is that when I go to the page on Google Services to type my mobile number and receive the text link, I never receive the text!!!! I've tried 15> times and it never sends me the link.
