Default Anyone pair up a GPS with maps yet?

Please Login to Remove!

I’m wondering if it will give “navigation” like directions or just show you where you are…

OK, but what funtions does it have? Will it just tell you where you are, or will it give navigation directions?

I paired it with a TomTom GPS I had with my treo 650. It works great. It's not much for navigation (unless I haven't figured that part out yet), but it does show you were you are on a google-ish map. Tells you your speed also.

Works perfectly with my Holux 240 as well. The Holux 240 is a great little device, super small and matches the 8100's case to boot.

So all it does is show your location? No turn by turn or anything?

There is an option for directions in the maps menu, and it will give you directions a la google maps if you put in your start and end points... I assume it would do the same with the GPS attached only that it would automatically pop up the next direction instead of having to scroll through the list.

I paired it with the Nokia LD-3W Bluetooth GPS and it worked perfectly. I didn't have any problems at all and the directions were really good, although I was traveling in LA so I didn't expect the maps to be too outdated.

I heard it does give turn by turn directions but it does not give you voice directions.

I just pair the pearl with garmin M5 using bluetooth and it gives you a map and you can create a route from one address to the next.
It can start gps service if paired using bluetooth. If the pairing is disconnected, you could still create route from the pearl.

Would a bluetooth gps, work with google maps mobile? Or just the map software that comes with the blackberry by default.

Google maps doesn't support gps. My favorite 3 are the bbmaps, Wayfinder and telenav. The last two gives turn by turn voice directions. You can also visit Stinsonddog's Blackberry Tips for more info.

If you take the time to read the documentation, you'll notice it says you can NOT use a standard cable to connect it to a PC. The supplied cable is for charging onlly. You will need a special cable that has a built in serial to USB converter in it. It's like 30 bucks on ebay.
