Default 8800 problems please help..driving me crazy

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I just received my unlocked (Cingular branded) 8800. I put the sim card in and it says invalid sim card. I thought i put it in wrong so i switched it and it now says insert sim card. SO i switched it back to the other way and I can't figure out if it is unlocked.

Also, all the old info from this persons BB is on there. How do I delete all the info.

I have t-mobile...

Thanks!!!!

Doesn't sound unlocked to me if the sim isn't registering although you might go to options >host routing table and register it to the network.

Search for the word "wipe" and you will find out how to delete all the data.

Welcome.

If he advertised it as unlocked, it should be or you need to ask for an adjustment that it costs.

Look at the FAQ site here (link in my signature) for the Wipe Handheld, etc.

Good luck.

does the TCP settings have to be changed? It still has all the cingular info on there. I have t-mobile. Or doesn't that matter.

You will need the TMo settings, also in the FAQ. But if you wipe the device that 'should' be cleared.

I would do the wipe, just to try to get it back like new.

howie, are you absolutely positutely sure the BB is unlocked. As stated above, it does not appear to be.

If it is not unlocked, you will get that message.

Thanks for the quick reply. A brought it off a guy on these forums and he has been working with me on this. He said that Cingular unlocked it when he went on a trip out of the country and he used another sim card instead of the cingular one.

I tried doing the test like you said above, but when I go to the sim screen, it is completely blank. There is no words or anything so i cant tell if it is unlocked or not...weird...

He thinks he still has the unlocking code.

Thanks again...

I am still doubting you either have the SIM card in the BB correctly--or that it is unlocked. You know, you could drop by a TMO store, and they could make sure the card is installed correctly.

Network = Active = Locked to the carrier.

Appears to be. Hopefully you can purchase an unlock code from someone like GSM PhoneSource - When Only The Best Will Do. It should cost you around $20-25.

Make sure your seller knows this.

thanks for your help!

Stupid question: Which one do I use to get an unlocking code:

Do I use Cingular who it is branded to or T-Mobile who is my carrier?

Use for what? the unlocking service does not care.

If your seller can get you the unlock code, for free from Cingy (his service) good, but it usually takes a few days. You will not be able to get a Cingular unlock code from TMobile. You will have to use a third party, as I directed.
