T-Mobile officially announced the 8700g at CTIA yesterday. Here is a paragraph from PC Magazine's coverage:

E-mailers will enjoy the Blackberry 8700g, a T-Mobile version of Cingular's 8700c. This next-generation Blackberry has a bright, sharp, high-res color screen and uses T-Mobile's EDGE network, their fastest cellular network at 100-160 kbps speed. The 8700g is coming out on April 17; look for a review later this month.

Well our T-Mobile rep just dropped off our 8700g demo. He got to use it for a few hours this morning, then left it with us. I currently use a 7105t, but I will say that the 8700 screen is even better than that. I cannot believe the clarity it has. The whole design is nice. It just feels right sitting in your hand, or cranking out an email on. I definitely like the added features of having a mute button on top and a programmable button on the left hand side. I get to spend a few days using it before I have to give it to someone else to test. The rep expects it to be available on T-Mobiles web site starting Monday, and available in stores within 2 weeks. Overall, I think itxxx8217;s a terrific device and they may have finally pried me away from my dearly loved 7105t

So what does it look like? Does it look the same as the UK T-mobile device?

A call into TMo cs confirms April 17 for retail stores. Retail stores won't preorder (at least not the ones I called...)

Anyway the cs rep I spoke with didn't know about timing on the website...

It looks almost identical to the 8700 posted on T-Mobiles UK web site. It does not show a side profile, so I cant see if the programmable button is on the UK version, but I would be surprised if it was not. I am trying to figure out what happened to the IM client. It is not on the device and they dont give you the software on the disk in the box. Two quick observations - surfing with the 8700 on the Edge network is much better than using GPRS and when you reboot the device by removing the battery, it takes about 15 seconds for the device to come back up, as oppossed to 2-3 minutes for the 7105t

just an FYI on my last message - looks like our Purchasing group was incorrect on their information. our TMO rep says they do not even have pricing available for the device yet!

Agreed. One thing our rep did not have was any idea what they would be charging for it yet. jibi, can you explain how to load the IM client? I saw your other post regarding where to download it from. Do I use the address on the BB Browser and load it that way since it does not look like Desktop manager will recognize it, or do I have to use Javaloader?

Thanks,
Of the 8700 or of the rep?

No, that's if you use BIS. Basically, any time you're going to be hooking your BB up to a BES, you'll be dinged for $30/month.
