I plan on repairing a few of the 8830 devices I have laying around. I will take pictures of the process if and submit them to update this FAQ. I plan on doing this sometime later this week when I have some free time.

Default Couldn't wait for pics . . .

VZW 8830

I bought keyboard and ball few weeks back from CNN, forgot to order T5. I noticed a bunch of T5s at Sears yesterday and finally had what I needed. The ball was easy to replace, but needed to come here for keyboard replacement:
- remove: cover, battery, 4 screws
- used fingernail to pry side panels away starting at bottom. once you see the first clip (ea side) it's easy. I moved up to 3rd clip set leaving top of rails intact
- pry bottom of side rails out, lift bottom plate up to slide old keyboard out and new one in
- click side rails back in place; replace 4 screws, battery and cover
- turn on, step into dark room to enjoy the new keyboard my older eyes can now read - with white backlight . . .

Hope this helped for those that just needed to replace keyboard. It was easy and only took a few minutes.

Thanks all for your help over the years. Admittedly, it's hard to contribute here when you find answers immediately after encountering a problem . . . Regards

I have taken pictures of this process and submitted them to JSanders to update the FAQ. I hope this helps out users in the future once he has enough free time to update the FAQ.
