Default Need Input From WM6 Users Who Switched to BB Storm

Please Login to Remove!

I need some help in deciding if I should buy a new WM phone or make the jump to a BB. Can anyone who is currently using or previously used a WM6/6.1 phone and made the switch to the Storm chime in?

I am currently using the XV6900 with WM6. This is the Verizon branded HTC Touch. There is no keyboard just like the Storm, so I don't think I will have an issue getting used to this. I also am not a power user for texting or e-mails (maybe a total of 30 texts/e-mails combined a day).

My main use for the phone is as a phone. In this department the XV6900 has been less than impressive. I have heard pretty good things about the Storm as a phone so I believe I will be happy with the Storm as a phone.

The next two biggest uses for me are retrieving and sending work e-mails via microsoft exchange server and syncronizing with my internet explorer calender. I have heard from just about everyone I've talked to that BB does this very well. How does it differ from a WM device and which do you prefer for the syncronizing with exhange server and calender?

There are only two people currently using BB devices in my office. The rest use WM devices. Therefore I would not be using BES as the company does not support it at this time. Will using BIS affect the above answer about the syncronizing?

Lastly, I need to open attachments (word, excel, pdf) with some minor editing. This area I am uncertain with how well the Storm is able to compare to a WM device. How well does the BB OS handle the microsoft documents and minor editing of them?

Any insight and comments would be greatly appreciated. I am eligible to upgrade in two weeks and will most likely be going with the Storm or Samsung Omnia. Thanks!

I used to have a Motorola Q9m with WM6. I loved it as it was my first WM device. I was thinking of switching to the HTC Touch VX6900, but my friend got it before me and he went through 3 replacements and texting wasn't a pleasure on it at all. You are going to love typing on the Storm. It is so much easier. Blackberries are known for emailing, there are no better line up out there than the berries. Minor changes to Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, and Power Points can all be done on the storm with the purchase of the program. You will not be disappointed with the Storm and will be glad you got rid of the HTC. The Samsung Omnia is a cool phone, but I love my Blackberry.

I just came from a Q9m with WM6.1 but went through the AWFUL Omnia and Saga before finally settling on the Storm. The Storm is awesome quite honestly. The phone portion works great - way better than a Touch all day long.

having had the fuze and the 8525 htc i have to say that there is nothing out there better then a blackberry using as a business tool not a tool for entertainment it does its job perfect. the touch screen works perfect when you have the right setting. the cam is nice and its nice to have the large memory to store things on once in a while listen to music or watch a short movie. the on thing that i did not like about wm6 no matter how much you play with the OS it still lags and just never ran perfect and i am usaly on the xda froums doing some searching so none of my pocket pc phones were ever left stock. i think its the best thing you can do if you want something that does the job. go black you never go back

I had the Omnia for 3 weeks, I couldn't STAND typing. It was the WORST phone. Listening to music and typing.... NO WAY! Missed half the key strokes. lol.

I've had a lot of WM6.1 devices, stick to BB

I have had lots of Win Mobile devices in the past. I switched to BB about a year ago and have never looked back. The Storm is an awesome phone. Its a little bit of a learning curve but well worth it in my opinion

BB is far more reliable from an OS perspective.

Case in point: since my father-in-law switched from WM6 to a BB 8330, he's not had a single issue or frustration which was caused by WM5 and/or WM6.

His *only* regret is that SlingPlayer Mobile isn't available for the BB (yet).
