Hi Everyone,

I have an 8703e with US Cellular. I just followed the instructions in the post on how to update the OS. I am running DM 4.5 and am connecting my BB to the DM with my bluetooth dingo since I can't get my cord to work for some reason.

Everything is connecting fine with the phone and DM, but the AppLoader, Media Manager and Device Switch Wizard are grey'd out and I can not select them. I would really like to update to the 4.2 OS because I have programs that I want to add, but they only support the 4.2 OS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You can't use bluetooth to upgrade the OS. You MUST use USB.

Ugh. I've had two different USB cords and neither worked. They were a generic brand that I got from US Cellular. The DM would recognize the phone for 3 seconds, disconnect for 3 seconds, and repeat. Do you know if there's a BB specific cord or something I can get?

Is your USB cable plugged to the rear USB ports? Not the front, not a monitor USB port and not a USB hub.

Also, are you on a corporate BES that would disable any updates such as this?

I've plugged it into every port on the computer, 2 in the back, 2 on the side. And no, I'm not a corporate BES.

Keep it in one of the ones on the rear.

Where did you get the BB from? Look at Options > Security > General Settings > scroll to the bottom of the screen, is anything listed Services?

the BB came from US Cellular. The phone was purchased in January. I've bought both cords from US Cellular as well, within the past month. Never used the DM before.

The service listed is: BBFS1 [GTALKNA1] (AES)

If you have a service listed under Security, you are either on a BES, or the phone came with one.

IT policy is removed, but the phone/DM are still doing the same thing - connecting for a few seconds, disconnecting, etc. I would really like to be able to use the DM to sync with the programs on my computer, but in order to do so, I need to get the 4.2 OS.

Now DM seems to have a problem - it's had an error pop up twice and shut the program down each time.

Now I'm in trouble -

I can't connect via bluetooth - it keeps asking for the security code and it won't accept the one I had set it up with.

I was somehow able to connect via the cable, I started the update of the OS and 10 minutes in it disconnected.

I have no way of connecting the phone to the computer. I also can't use the phone, there's a white screen with a box with a "no" circle going through it and the number 507 underneath.

Other than giving up and going to get an iphone, any ideas?

It should be available at some point. No word on any dates, though, as it depends on the carriers. It's been developed, though.

Default Ringtones/sounds

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to the blackberry. I just know enough to be dangerous! I have a couple of mp3's that I would like to add to the blackberry for certain notifications. I have an 8703e through verizon. Can anyone help?

Default 8703E Device Software (updated from 4.1 to 4.2.1.110)

Am on Corporate BES - updated device s/w to 4.2.1.110 on my BB. Since that time, all of my emails on my BB (corporate/personal) are showing diagonal lines (1/2" wide) of red and white. The lines remain when I reply or respond. If I forward the email to my desktop (laptop), the red chunky lines are not there. I have cleaned up my themes and only have those offered by VZW (not 3rd party). I would like to revert back to the 4.1 software - can I uninstall this version? My desktop manager will not allow me to select a previous version. Please advise on the uninstall and also how to remove the lines - I don't particularly care for this new version, some options have changed. Please advise.

Go to Options >Security Options >General Settings. Scroll down to "Message Colors." Change them to "None."

It's a feature added to easily differentiate between different email accounts or between emails and pins. In OS 4.5 it's been changed to a colored outline around the text box.

There's no need to revert back to 4.1. I'd recommend sticking with 4.2 until someone releases 4.5 for the 8703.

I was wondering if you guys could help out.

I just upgraded to 4.2 on my 8703.
It failed during the transfer.
There was a message saying that my files were backed up.

I successfully installed the new OS on the second try but now I am stuck with no data on my blackberry. No contacts, emails etc.

How do I get this back? Does anyone know where my backup files are stored?

Followed the instructions carefully and it was perfect! A little strange looking at first glance with no theme installed, but once I did that it was perfect!

Great job!

You can download and install this OS to use on your verizon 8703. Just follow the instructions in the first post. Dont forget to delete the Vendor.Xml file.

This process worked like a champ for me (and I'm a complete n00b). Used DM 4.7 w/o Media Manager. Upgraded to 4.2.1.119 and now have BB Messenger.

audit....YOU DA' MAN!
