Storm sound quality poll
Please Login to Remove!
After a little research in the forums, I've found that call quality on the Storm has varied greatly. I'm trying to find out why. I tested a friend's storm along with mine by calling my work voicemail with both phones several times. His was always much better. It has been mentioned that the phones made in Canada (my friends was) had better quality than the ones made in Mexico (mine). I went to store and found that they were made in Hungary too, as they only had Hungaries to exchange for my Mexico.
Where was your phone made? (Can be found on original box or under battery)
Do you have any friends (or people you know anyways) that have a storm and you can do the same Voicemail test?
What were your results?

My wife never had trouble hearing me when i called her from my BB Pearl. Within a week she asked me three or four times if there was something wrong with my phone (currently the Storm) and that i sounded muffled. I called my VM and left a message from the storm, and I realized what she was talking about. Because the Storm is heavy i found myself supporting the bottom of it w/ my pinky finger. I thought maybe i was covering the mic hole, but that didn't solve the sound quality prob.

I don't have a 9530 but I have Verizon and whenever I use a GSM Blackberry the persons voice sounds crystal (Better) compared to my 8330.
Sorry I don't mean to go "Off topic"

i use the 9530 with tmo...
call quality i found to be very good.
when using a pair of etymotic research er-4p pro earphones to listen to audio/video with the phone, the quality is diminished by background noise and other noise that bleeds into the audio output signal, but it's not that extensive.
as a comparison, i noticed less artifacts when using a pair of sony MDR-V700DJ headphones.
overall its got pretty good output quality via headphones/speakers/earpiece and microphone. as a phone, i would rate it above average. as a dedicated audio player, the 5G ipod is a little better...
but niether compares to hi-fi gear...
edit: my phone was made in mexico

My storm was made in Hungary, and I've been told that the sound quality is akin to VoIP (very very good). Another factor that may play a role in poor sound quality is current battery life remaining. Some phones are designed to lower the sound transfer quality in order to save battery life. That is a WinCE feature, so I'm not sure if the same applies to BB OS's. Try charging your battery to full, and then making test calls.

I've noticed that my wife sounds worse than she did on her previous phone when using her storm. I've tested our phones each other and sound quality is the same on both. Then again, I've never had anyone comment on the quality of how I sound. I notice that the when reception isn't the best the digital "distortions" are pronounced, and the VOIP analogy earlier in the thread is very good.
Our storms are Hungarian, built in February.

I recently switched to BB and I was a bit upset with the complaints I have been getting from people I call about the sound quality. I broke my jawbone right before buying the phone so I am not sure if a bluetooth ear piece will help or make it worse. My storm was made in hungry as well.

Blackberry Storm Sound Quality problems continue
My Storm has had sound problems from the beginning (several months ago). I am in business and can't deal with this. So I went to my Verizon acct. and they play dumb. They walk me thru repeated tests where we call each other in the store. Guess what no problem. I have tried microphone, bluetooth and they all are equally a problem.
This past week I was told 1) I must be holding a phone with my finger over the mic. 2) then when that didn't work, I saw them again and he blew out the mic 3) next trip he told me the new software update would solve the problem. Well that didn't solve it and it added a problem with my Visual Voice Mail.
At this point I have to turn it back in. I will let them send me a new one or replacement if they want to try this. But if they won't do this or if it doesn't work, then I will get something where my clients can actually hear me.
