I just ordered the new 8130 from verizon,it should be here in 2 days so I have a few questions.
1.I own a mac computer thats blue tooth capable ,will it work with my mac?

2.I want to use google calender as my default calendar,is this possible?(I mean will I be able to just click on the calender icon and google calendar come up?)

3.Will I have to pay extra for blackberry maps or google maps?

im sure ill have more questions but for now this is all I can think of.

Thanks

2. You can set up your BB to wireless sync with google calendar using google sync. It is still in beta and not perfect, but I've got it working at an acceptable level. Other people haven't had the same luck.

3. No, those apps are free. If you didn't get the unlimited data plan, you could incur excess data charges, which add up in a hurry. And map programs tend to be fairly data intensive.

Purchase a VNnavigator subscription from Verizon.
It should be about $10 per month.

If you don't want to go down that road (no pun intended)... you can purchase a Bluetooth GPS puck for about $80 and use some free GPS software.

Can I use my mac to do this ?

Also is this the default calender or do I have to go to a website everytime to look at my calender?

I was also wondering if I use my gmail for email will my gmail contacts automatically go into my address book?

Im wondering this because I have an automatic address updater with verizon that keeps a list of my contacts that im currently usingon my current phone that does not have email capabilities..

so will these contacts go into a different address book than my email contacts?

Contacts on gmail won't sync to your BB... you will need to export from gmail and import to the BB.

Google Sync is between your BB and Google Calendar wirelessly so it doesn't matter what kind of computer you're using. Your calendar will show up in the BB calendar, no need to go to a website. Hope that answers your question.

Ditto on what JSanders said.

Don't have a Mac so I can't be too much help to you on that. If you look in the Mac Users Corner you should find a thread with info and people who know how to get this done.

1. Export your contacts from Gmail to whatever filetype they allow: ascii, excel or something. Then import that data either, a) into Outlook and sync Outlook with you BB via Desktop Manager, or b) direct to the BB if that file type is syncable to the BB, some ascii file types are allowable. You may need to discover some of this for yourself, but I know it is possible.

EDIT, I remember now you have a Mac. It will still work, just not with Desktop Manager, which is not Mac compatible. Look in the Mac section here for using PocketMac or Missing sync software to interact with the Mac.

And here is the instrucitonal from google on exporting gmail contacts that you didn't find:
Exporting Gmail contacts

I am also quite new to BB. I have a BB 8130. I am trying to figure out how to get my gmail contact email addresss list into my BB.
When I tried to export the contacts by following the instructions I ended up with an Excel file of addresses that I didn't know what to do with.
Please help.
Thanks

With that Excel file, save as an ascii file, and then use Desktop Manager to import the list to your BB. Download and install DM version 4.2, service pack 2

You'll be able to see your Gmail contacts and respond via Gmail using that app but you'll be missing out on the full BlackBerry integration without having your contacts in your BlackBerry's addressbook. It's definitly worth the time to import them properly using the Desktop Manager or Pocket Mac software as described above.

Is there a specific place on the BB to which it should be downloaded? (This is my first time to download something to my BB.) Which function of the download manager do I use to transfer the file to my BB?Media, applications?
Thanks in advance for your kind help.

I was referring to the fact that if your contacts were not stored in the BlackBerry's addressbook then:

- incoming caller ID would show the number but not the name of known callers
- you could not dial by name in the Phone app
- you could not email by name in the Messages app

There are lots of other ways that your Contact list integrates with other BlackBerry apps.

How do I save the excel file as a ascii file??
When I click export on my gmail contact list I get three options for saving?
Google's CSV format (for importing into another Google account).
Outlook's CSV format (for importing into Outlook or other applications).
vCard format (for importing into Address Book or other applications)
It seems that the first two options are excell files.
Thanks

Export the file as a Outlook.csv. Then rename the file to .txt.
