I just switched to the Pearl yesterday from the 8700 and that's a good hint for using Suretype. It took forever to type an e-mail yesterday. I still need to get used to using it. I'm not sure I can be faster with it than a regular qwerty, but we'll see. I'm going to give it a couple of weeks before making the decision to return or not.

I switch to a Pearl yesterday from a 7230. All I have to say is so far I love the Pearl. Suretype works well so far...can't complain. My advice is not to look at the screen while you type and only hit each key once, even if it's the second letter on the key (i.e. if you want a W, only hit that key once, initially a Q may show up but then it will correct itself as you enter the remaining letters of the word).

Switched from a Treo650 to 8100 yesterday. My biggest concern was the Suretype system, but I couldn't wait until Feb(?) for the 8800, so I figured I'd try it on the 30day return policy.

So far, I find it quite a bit slower, but even in one day, I'm getting more used to it and it's growing on me. It was hilarious when my BB Admin let out a big sigh when I told him what I was adding to the BES - he told me it took another person 20 mins to enter their email name using a 7130. Lucky for him, it only took me a few minutes to get up and Suretyping.

I wish there were a way to edit the custom word list on the PC. It "learns" by reading my incoming email, which contains tons of acronymic junk and incorrectly spelled words. I wish it would learn from only from words that I enter.

Anyhow - that's my impression on Day #2.

I enjoy RIM's SureType and two letters per key over having a large device in my hand like I had with the Treo 650.

IMO the Pearl keys are a little too small top to bottom, not across. But SureType is great. Just don't look, just type, and you'll be OK almost every time.

I just got a pearl and this version of Suretype seems to be much better than previous versions. Not sure if that is true, it just seems better to me.

Suretype works amazingly, eerily well. I can't say I necessarily prefer it over a QWERTY, but it's at least it's equal. In fact I pretty much typed this exact same post into it when I first got it (method acting ) and it was 100%. It makes a few dumb mistakes time to time but it's obviously ready for prime time and getting better.

BTW, I told my friend to "not look at the screen" the first time he ever saw it, much as I don't, and he also nailed a perfect sentence over three lines long.

It does take a little time to get used to. I came from a BB 7290 with a big spacious keyboard and now I got the pearl. The suretype takes time to get used to it. Not that its all that hard, I just keep misspelling words because the keys are so close together. It doesn't take me long to type what I want, I just won't be typing out any long emails anytime soon. Also there a lot of times when I type a word and just assume that the right word came out when I go back and read it, its wrong. For example "are" and "see" and for some reason my "bullshit" allways reads "billshit". But it'll just take some time to figure out which words I need to check and see if they came out right. And proof reading before I hit send.

I had a 7100, 8700, 7290 and I loved the full keyboard on the 8700... after a few months now l am loving suretype again. its slower than the 8700, but the size is a fair tradeoff. The camera seals the deal. oh yeah, the MP3 player too, I have it on all day at work!

For a Candybar formfactor of the 8100 vs the brick formfactor of the bigger bulkier blackberries, bring on Suretype anyday! Took almost no time to get used to it.

QWERTY is nice, but I actually really dig the SureType too. Doesn't bother me (and it's MUCH easier to do while driving... only when absolutely needed, of course).

Does anybody have any suretype shortcuts other than the following?

1) When filling out an email address, doubleclicking the 0 first gives an '@' and then gives a '.'

2) Double clicking the 0 in open text gives a '.' and a space.

Any other time savers?

BTW I enjoy suretype - give it some time you naysayers - and as everyone else has said, don't look at the screen as you type. As it learns it will make less and less mistakes.

One interesting thing - did anyone else realize that no matter how often you use the word 'sh*t' it doesn't want to suggest that in future use?
