Default Simultaneous use of BES and GMAIL

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

Am wondering how BES and GMAIL can work together. When being hooked to my work email through BES I am wondering how my gmail would behave. How do you you distinguish GMAIL emails from BES emails when replying to message. For example, if I get an email from GMAIL and I reply to it how do I have it such that it will not go through BES(work) and appear to be coming from GMAIL?

Can this be done when connected to BES?

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

...Bruce

Get a BlackBerry Internet Service account from your wireless provider. Configure it to send as if it's sending from your Gmail account, and forward new mail from your Gmail to the BIS account.

Works like a charm.

What about if you wanted to keep those accounts separate?

In other words, receive both in the BB inbox, but not be forwarding the gmail - so BES + WebClient email at the same time?

Shape Services, (the people that do IM+) has released a client program for GMail, though it's a traditional POP client (open program, check mail), not push email that shows up in your Messages.

If you want to keep GMail separate, this is a good solution. If you want it automatic, an in you Messages, the BIS route is the way to go (and free).

But is there a way to specify which account you are sending from if they both come into your inbox?

I would like to add one more question in this mix, verizon customer support told me that you can have BES or BIS not both is this true? would it mess up any setup if I set up BIS account for Gmail and also use BES? Thanks.

You can have both a BES and a BIS. It will not mess up anything in your setup. And you should be able to switch between BES and BIS when you respond.

When sending email or replying to email, check and make sure you are sending via webclient (BIS) or desktop (BES). You can also change it if you like.

I just want to make a correction to that if I may.

KonTiki, you are correct that you can have both a BES account and a BIS account on a BlackBerry.

When composing new emails, you can switch between Desktop (BES) or WebClient (BIS). This can be done by changing what's in the "Using" field between "Desktop" and "Web Client" when composing a new email.

However, when replying to an email, you do not have the ability to change this. You can see which account (BIS or BES) the original email was sent to by looking at the "Using" field. However, you will notice that you do not have the ability to change this field when replying to emails. If an email was sent to your BIS account, you can only reply to it using your BIS account. If the email was sent to your BES account, you can only reply to it using your BES account.

It also doesn't push e-mail. You have to go retrieve it with the client.

Some people swear by one or the other.

Unless your BES has disabled other e-mail options, integrating the two should be no issue.

Just make sure that it isn't against your company policy to mix personal and company email on the device, especially if the company is paying the bill and owns the BB. Keep in mind that if they do own the BB and pay the bill, they have the right to see whatever is on it, i.e. email.
