I'm in the Montreal airport for 45 minutes on a connection from the US to Paris and I get a bill for $98 for GPRS roaming for 6 MB of data?

TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS!

and how is that rogers fault? Your carrier charges the roaming fees not the carrier you are roaming on...

jddphd,
You've been around here long enough to know that kind of language is not tolerated here. I feel your pain but please keep it clean.

Somebody is going to have to explain the Rogers thing to me. Every time I talk with somebody who is on Rogers, they pay a jinormus amount of money for everything from data to minutes, wassup with that?

I think it's rediculous how the mobile industry charges folks especially for roaming. Can I blame Bush for this one?

jddphp- truly rediculous what you got charged-I hope you have contacted your carrier about this and have gotten some sort of satisfaction (i.e; credits) for this.

However-it really wasn't that long ago that roaming in the US could run a buck a minute in some areas-and some smaller regional carriers had their network proactively call your phone with a "wlecome message" to assure that they were getting at least a minutes' worth of billable charges while you were within their purvue.

The industry has come a long way in general regarding roaming changes.

I would assume your wireless provider is AT&T. Just to have something as an example.

According to AT&T Web Page for International Roaming and Coverage:

All GPRS pay per use rates are $.0195/KB, except in Canada rate is $.015/KB

Now, a simple math. $.015/KB * 1000 = $15/MB. $15/MB * 6 = $90.

This is what AT&T collected from you. I doubt Rogers has much say in this, AT&T charges you flat rate.
