I can get the necessary account provision done, that's not an issue. Plus, in a worst case I can a) reinstall Bell's currently offered OS, b) wait for Bell to release their new OS, or c) have the unit replaced under warranty.

I've been doing this for a while, I know what I'm getting myself into. ;^)

Hey Jeff,

Did you notice that the Bell upgrade changed the VerizonWireless theme.

I was wondering if the themes would transfer along with the OS upgrade ... I've applied Sprint code to my 7250 and I still have a Bell logo as my default standby screen.

Is there any Bell branding that shows up on your device now or have just the colours/icons changed?

No Bell Branding.

It seems the VerizonWireless Theme changed a bit. The check marks that appear when sending a message are now black, which I like because you can see them.

The highlight bar in the message list and address book are black. I am not sure if it was black before. The highlight bard in calendar - agenda view is a dark gray. not sure which color it was before.

I lost my Vorino theme during the upgrade.

If I do a backup before trying this and I decide I don't like the results, would a simple restore get me back to where I am currently?

It's a little more involved than backup/restore ... but downgrading your OS isn't much more complicated than upgrading it. There are a couple of good FAQs that give step by step instructions and contain lots of follow up discussion highlighting potential difficulties you might encounter. I suggest you read these first and procede only if you're comfortable with what you've read.

I upgraded however when I sent a composed message the mesage failed to send. The phone then dropped to 1X. I resent the message in 1X mode and it went through. I tried this a few times with the same outcome each time. I then downgraded back to the old OS and the problem went away. I noticed that with the new version OS I jumped between 1X and EVDO. Using the old OS EVDO is more stable on my phone. Has anybody else seen this?

One of Mark Rejhon's FAQs mentions the "flipping between 1x, 1X and EVDO" issue ... I believe he said that re-registering the HRT fixes the problem ...

Let me correct myself ... Here's what Mark has said about the mode-flipping issue:

"12. Possible Problem: If BlackBerry Randomly Switches Between 1x, 1X, 1XEV or "Connection Refused"Go to phone, enter ##000000 and hit dial. That is two pound marks followed by six zeros. You will see a screen. Scroll to where it says SIP Password, then type vzw in the password field. Also verify that all three usernames are <phone number>@vzw3g.com on this screen. Then select Save, and Restart."

I did the ##000000 and the HRT register and it did not help to solve the sending mail problem or the EVDO/1X problem. Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Did your 7130e reset at random times? Like while sending an e-mail or surfing the web. If so, did this software update fix that?

Mine didn't reboot at random it only did it when disconnecting a bluetooth device by either turning off the device or walking out of range and occasionally while using it as a tethered modem. This was apparently the case for a lot of other users on here and it does fix the bluetooth issue, but I haven't tested the teathering issue enought to say if it fixed that or not.

So far here are the issues that the Bell software seems to fix:
-Bluetooth device disconnect crash and reboot
-The missing top half of the battery meter in the Verizon theme
-Garbled begining of MP3 ringtones
-Spikes in signal strength in network fringe areas are more stabilized

Mine did this when I was in areas with poor coverage with the old Verizon 4.1 OS. After upgrading to the newer Bell revision it has been improved.

Not sure it will help but after upgrading redo the Verizon over the air programming by dialing *22899 and send wait while it reprograms the phone. Then go to Options-->Advanced Options-->Host Routing Table, click the wheel then select Register Now. Then reset the device by pulling the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then put the battery back in and allow the device to power back up. Hopefully that will clear up the problem. If not you may be stuck with the old revision for now.

I haven't experienced any anonymous reboots. So I think I'll wait for the Verizon release. Should be soon.

I only hope that Verizon will make their OS update even better.

We are talking about VerizonWireless here.

How many 7250 updates were available? I don't think any until the EVDO upgrade.
