Okay, what am I missing here?

I downloaded the file to my PC, then tried to install it on my BB using the Application Loader, only to find out that it's the wrong file type! That's a .jad file, and the App Loader is looking for it to be a .alx! What am I doing wrong?

BTW, I'm using Desktop Manager version 4.2.

a .jad file needs to be downloaded directly via your BB Browser.

Desktop Manager requires an .alx and a .cod file.

Thumbs up Success!

Success!

Last night, I went ahead and downloaded the version of Dimension Zen available at the link above, and I'm now getting the message alerts I didn't used to get!

However, after the initial reboot, they weren't showing up 100% correctly. I went ahead and powered down my , pulled the battery, and reinserted it to do a hardware reboot. Once it booted back up, the alerts started showing up like they're supposed to!

I'm glad I found this thread!

Default Lost the browser!

Here's another oddity - when I reloaded the Zen theme (and got the voicemail icon back), the browser completely disappeared from the device. It seems to be still there in Desktop Manager/Application Loader but it doesn't get loaded back on to the device. Is there somewhere I can download it from? In the interests of marital harmony (it's my wife's BB), HELP!

Question Wtf?!?

Okay, seriously, it's June 15th, 2007! OS 4.2 has been rolling out for ALL current s, from all the carriers around the world, for 8 months! WHY does T-Mobile STILL have this outdated 4.1.0.346 on their website?!? WHY haven't they released 4.2 for the 8700g some 7-8 months AFTER they released it for the 8100 Pearl?!? WTF?!?!?!?

I guess I have no choice but to learn how to "hack" a version of 4.2 from another carrier, and then d/l and install a copy from another source, because T-Mobile CLEARLY isn't interested in keeping my up-to-date on the OS side, and I'm NOT buying a new until I can get one that is equipped for HSDPA/UMTS 3G data on T-Mobile USA, so that I can get faster internet speeds when using my as a tethered modem!

Jack,
I recommend the new 4.2.1.96 for the 8700g on the AT&T site. It's actually listed on their site for the 8700g (cingular doesn't even have the 8700g). It should be a very stable OS and will work very well on your TMo 8700. It's not a hack. A simple deletion of the vendor.xml and it will install just fine.

I'm not sure why TMo isn't releasing anything yet either but you will be happy with the 4.2.1.96. Chances are TMo will release the same version.

Thanks for the additional info, John. I'll give that a try in a few days.

Then I'll have the fun of figuring out how to make sure T-Zones and Opera Mini work correctly on the new OS! LOL!

After the OS load simply reenter the APN settings for under TCP and do a Register Now under Host Routing Table (this may happen automatically when you first turn on the wireless. It usually does for me.)

All will be well.

Well you us the media manager in the dtm. But since you reading the device memory and have no micro sd card I won't let you load em on cause the files are too big. However it dose make it easier to port ringtones.
