Im new to the whole blackberry thing and I was just wondering if it is possible to use the internet, GPS or any other app that would require a data plan without using wifi and or costing me money. I have looked around and saw that changing my TCP setting does something like this but does it make it so that i can freely use the internet? I have tmobile if that helps. thanks in advance

You can use GPS itself for free as that is paid for by tax dollars. And if you can use latitude and longitude readings by themselves, you are good to go.

For all map applications, email and Internet, you need a BB data plan. Some have managed to get Internet via WiFi without a BB data plan, but that is a very poor work around. To get all the value of a BB, you need the BB data plan. If you can't afford it, then maybe it isn't the right device for you.

If you access the internet without a data plan over anything but WiFi, you can possibly be charged for per/kb use. That gets expensive real fast. It will make a BlackBerry data plan seem like pennies.

No. GPS will work. Google Maps will not. It requires data.

In order to get anything from GPS other than a latitude/longitude readout and to make it useful, you need a map application which requires data.

Theres few map applications that uses locally stored maps, but they all suck right now.

You're not going to get free internet. You need to pay for data.
