Hi there...I just switched from a Treo 700wx to a BB 8830 World edition and have some questions. First off...can I change WHEN my BB check for email..like how often? On the treo I could sepcify how often or just turn it off..I don't see that anywhere on here. It generally gets emails every 20mins or so minutes, NOT immediately.

Also..might be an immature question, but I am new so please forgive..what exactly is email reconciliation? Is that sort of a manual check for email?

How can I stop my email messages from showing up in my regular message area and only in my message inbox?

Hello Mark, welcome to the forums...

Are you on BIS or BES? I am assuming you are on BIS since you are getting email every 20 mins or so.

I do not think there is an option to check email manually. The point of a BBerry is email! You are going to get email when u get it.


Email reconciliation is really a BES feature I think, I may be wrong. It will match what you on your BBerry with your mail server or vice versa.


Your message area will store all of your emails regardless of account. if you are looking to seperate your SMS's out of this, there is an option for that.

You can't change when your BB gets mail. It does not check for mail. Mail gets pushed to it.

If you are BIS, email reconciliation, on a POP account might include deletion reconcile (delete on BB, deletes on email server) and may include read/unread for some email servers.

ALL messages, email, sms, PIN, etc., will go to the main message folder. You cannot change that.

thank you so much.. I guess I have to just wait for the server to push it. Maybe i have a slow server connecting to my BB and that's why it takes 20 mins??

also, I heard I can change the color of the email messages in the main message folder to differentiate??

it normally is on a 15 min cycle. If you have mail to push, it will check again in two, if not, then back to 15. You can forward your POP mail to a gmail for faster delivery, instant. Requires some additional setup on the reply to and sent from, but it is not really difficult.

You can't change the email colors in the message folder (Level 1 messages will be RED , though. But you can get BlackBerrySmart that will change the color of the headers according to the account from it came.

Another tip for reconciliation of emails:

If you go into the Messages, then choose the blackberry menu (however you do it on your device).

Goto Options -> Email Reconciliation

You can set something for "Delete on Handheld", "Delete on Handheld & Server" or the default "Prompt"

If you want it to automatically do one or the other, you can change this setting here. That way you can have a little less interruption in what you want to do.

There's also the On Conflicts where you can do a "Reconcile Now" in the main menu (Where you chose Options), where this takes effect. When you do "Reconcile Now", this On Conflict tells the system how it reacts.
