It seems that the AOL protocol has undergone some changes since the original specification. The problem is that the information that is out there on the changes has come from reverse engineering/packet sniffing. There is, therefor, no license available so I cannot make the relatively trivial changes necessary.

We are still trying to contact AOL to get some official word from them, and as soon as we know more, we'll update everyone.

As to the Google Talk software, I agree, the open Jabber protocol would make for an excellent platform to build on

Yes Jabber is nice I was able to setup a jabber server with gateways to AIM, MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo which worked great just haven't been able to come up with a BB program that allows me to use the gateways. I can connect and see the gateways but unable to find a program that lets me login to the gateways to use them. If someone would come up with a BB program to access a jabber server and allow login to the gateways I would agree to host the jabber server and gateways from my server for FREE!!!! Just like I do for the spell check.

So, for tmobile users, it would be wim.aol/?service=tmobile ?

Tried it and no go. it tells me "Invalid Connection String: no port specified" So, what am I doing wrong?

I put it in Options -> SRA Ramble -> <where the toc address is>

Seems wrong location? I removed the '?' from the string, no go.

if nothing else you could use it with the web browser... goto http://wim.aol.com/?service=nextel and log in. Problem is like he said you probably wont get net alerts so until you check the web thing again there is no way to know if/when you get a new message
