I'll let you know tomorrow!
I have set it to Prompt, and should know when I land and turn the wireless network back on. If it works, it should ask me if I want to change time zones.
I am trembling with anticipation.

Stuart, is that indeed the way the new feature will work, or are you making assumptions?
I haven't looked yet, but if you have a link to a detailed description, I be interested in reading about it.

aiharkness,
it's an educated guess. I haven't been out of my time zone since I upgraded to 5.0.

Landed in the Central Time Zone and enabled the radio.
The 9700 asked if I wanted to change time zones and I said Yes and it did!!! It changed on its own!!!
Now, how come my watch and PC don't change?

And that's all it did, is that right? Changed the timezone setting exactly as if you had changed it yourself manually? No mind reading by the blackberry to know whether you intended your calendar appointments to shift or not?

No mind reading. It was set to "Prompt" so it asked if I wanted to Central and it did. All appointments (except for one - the return flight) were set properly. But flights are ALWAYS messed up as they are not properly set in local TZ.
So easy even a "not very bright" BlackBerry Defender can use it (apologies to Geico).

Well, obviously there needs to be another prompt: Do you want to leave your calendar and task entries as entered or shift, along with leave, shift and cancel buttons.
And maybe a new help entry, What are time zones and why should I care?
And later, another fix to fix these fixes.

I don't see the problem here.
I have an appointment today at 11:30 (Eastern time, where I am). It's on the Calendar in my BB as 11:30 and the appointment shows Eastern time.
I went into my Date/Time options and manually changed my Time Zone to Central time.
Then I went and looked at my Calendar again and it now showed my appointment being at 10:30. I.e. it was absolutely correct.
I exited out of my Calendar and before I could go back into Options, a dialog popped up and said that the phone had detected my time zone is now Eastern and did it want to change it. I accepted the TZ change and then immediately went back into my Calendar and my appointment was back to showing as being at 11:30.
So, the ONLY even *potential* problem I can see is you enter an appointment that's in another time zone as if it's in your current time zone (and don't set the appointment's TZ correctly). If you're doing it on the BB, the TZ is one of the settings right there on the dialog box. Shame on you if you don't set that parameter correctly when you create the appointment.
The more likely way to mess up is if you enter an appointment directly into Outlook and let it sync to your BB. I don't see a way in my Outlook to set the TZ for an appointment. So, if I'm in Eastern and I enter an appointment that is going to be at 10am in Los Angeles, I just have to be smart enough to enter it as being at 1p (in Eastern). And, again, that is only an issue with entering the appointment directly into Outlook - not a problem with the BB.

Exactly, Stuart, but not what you think .... The posters having the hissy fits want the blackberry to do what their old razor or whatever does, change the time display when it moves into a different time zone. They want to enter their 11:00 appointment at 11:00 with no regard to time zone. If they are in Atlanta and they have a 11:00 appointment in San Francisco, they want to enter the appointment as 11:00 and just have the blackberry time display change. This "fix" is going to bring them back telling us how RIM really screwed this up and made a bad problem worse.
Personally, I didn't think it was broke. Now, I think it will be cool when I have a new balckberry and it prompts to change time zone. But the people who have been whining all these years are still going to be whining.
