OK... here's something to think about... people talking about why this happened aren't even close to the truth... Each of the carriers in North America have dedicated fiber to the RIM relay from their networks. DOS attacks will not affect the link between the carriers and the relay, this means that PIN messaging will not be affected in the event of a DOS attack against RIM.

I know for a fact, that an outtage (not this one) was caused because of a university co-op not realizing that the rack he was taking apart was a production rack, in the production room as opposed to the test rack in the test room, and no... I was not the co-op student.

I can all but guarantee that the 3 big ones in the last few years were due to hardware issues (once) and human error (twice).

Just got into Denver again, drove to Col Springs. STILL only getting SOS on my 7780 from Cingular. Someone at Cingular mentioned an upgrade to the towers there and I may have to buy a new device. Not to happy about that. The saga continues...

There is another Network Outage today in the NY Manhattan Midtown Area. No Eta as to when the network will be back up but you will see lower case gprs and "Data Connection Refused".

This is something that would be great to post to the bb outage mail list that was setup.

Angry Down in RI on VZW

Things are down here in Rhode Island on Verizon Wireless. I can get on the internet with the browser or receive email. I tried to call VZW but gave up on holding.

RIM is having an outage over North America again. It is a RIM issue not carrier issue. Went down about 1:30EST.

Someone started a new thread on this new outage. It is accross all carriers on RIM in North America. Down everywhere but I just got a couple of emails so it might be back up. Keep in mind, however, it will take some time for all the queued email to be delivered.

Those kinds of outages are carrier specic, not RIM. The North American outage right now is RIM. You will still see GPRS or 1X or NXTL but will not get email.

That's a problem with your carrier and not RIM.

Our other server that did not lose its SRP status got to over 1,300 pending messages. I bounced the Dispatcher service on that server and it emptied out a lot of messages (about 200 remain; not sure if they were purged or delivered to the handhelds).

I do have one user who rebooted his handheld and it will now only get gprs not GPRS. I know you all have said this is a carrier issue, but we have a tower sitting outside our building and about 30 other BlackBerry users in this office with no issues, so...

I just received a call from RIM. They said service has been restored. Messages may still be in the queue though...

We (upstate NY) began experiencing SRP issues around 1:00pm, lasting until 2:00pm, then once again from 3:30-3:45pm. All seems fine now. Does anyone know what the problem was/is with the RIM infrastructure?

Wonder if they're testing their "workaround" for the NTP lawsuit?
