Default Trackball Won't Roll Down (intermittently)

Please Login to Remove!

I have had a few times now where the trackball "gums up". Almost like there is some particle getting stuck under the ball. Mostly stopping me from rolling downward. Rolling up and to the sides is fine. This has happened now 5 or 6 times since I got the new phone from T-Mobile one week ago. If I play with the trackball a few seconds rolling it in all directions, in circular motion, I have been able to get it back to "normal". I am still in the 14-day return window and just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

btw: I have kept it really clean and have not let the kids play with it yet, etc. I kind of think it started acting funny when I tried to shove the phone into provided leather sleeve. I can't imagine that that is good for the buttons or trackball.

I've had this problem with all of my trackballs. Just roll it around, usually the opposite way and it will clean out whatever is causing the problem.

Do you carry it in your pocket? Most likely there is lint or dirt clogging one of the contacts. Turn the device off. Press and hold the trackball and roll first in the direction of the problem and then roll it in all directions for a minute or so. Turn the device back on and it should work. You can also spray some "canned" air around the ball while pressing it down. Will help clean it.

Once you get it working, carry it in the pouch, not in your pocket.

Any way to remove the trackball yet for the 8900?

Edit: I looked it up, you have to take the whole thing apart to change, clean the entire atomic trackball assembly.

I'm having that problem too :( the trackball doesn't work occasionally, I sometime need to hit the back of my javelin slightly a bit, to let it work again. I only have it for less than a month
I feek like I have a defective device :S it works on my nerves!

Again, do you carry the device in your pocket? If so it picks up dirt and lint and when that gets around the trackball, it can cause it to miss the contacts and not work as advertised.

To fix it:

You don't need to take it apart if the fix below works. Try it and see.

Turn the device off. Press and hold the trackball and roll first in the direction of the problem and then roll it in all directions for a minute or so. Turn the device back on and it should work. You can also spray some "canned" air around the ball while pressing it down. Will help clean it.
