I agree -- the lack of a tactile keyboard or data entry method has left me somewhat vexed. Nevertheless, I think it is an pointless exercise to discuss the merits or failures of this method when not a single individual outside of Apple and Cingular have spent more than 10 minutes actually trying to type with this thing.

Enough with the iPhone discussion. Someone just please tell me what L.A.-area stores have the 8800 in stock.

I will be first in line to say what I have seen of the iPhone is simply outstanding! Looks like it will be as big as the iPod for Apple, no doubt. I do agree with you about the iPhone and work, my email workload is quite heavy when I am in the filed, heck I could not adapt to the Pearl's keyboard!

Oh yes ... the omnipresent "one day". Of course, you'll refuse to acknowledge that day when it comes, unless you find it within your interests to do so.

Side note: I've heard an odd rumor that the world isn't flat anymore. Utter nonsense, right?

Agreed. I tried the Pearl and was very impressed by the SureType. But for all the emailing I do, it just wasn't for me.

Sophist - I'm right with ya! Can't wait to get back home so I can see if any stores in Orange County have an 8800 for me!

I could not agree more and will stay on the subject.

Anyone know why Texas was the only state to both get and start selling the 8800. Was Texas very lucky or is someone in ATT&T/Cingular in trouble for a BIG mistake! Never seen a one state delivery before!

I think someone posted earlier that the distribution was from Texas?

When the Treo 750 came out, just about all the states on the West Coast got them a day or two before the East Coast. But it wasn't limited to just one state.

One day we will not use a keyboard anymore but right now and for at least a few more years a hard keyboard rules. It is the thing you are typing on right now and I suspect for quite a while.

Until this great break thru in touchscreen keyboards emerges, please pardon me for sticking to why I and most others will agree works better.
Greg ... I don't think anyone will debate you on the merits of a hard keyboard. Obviously it's the data-entry method of choice for almost everyone, myself included. The issue seems to be that you dismiss, wholesale, a different data-entry method on a device that you have neither seen nor used.

Back on point, does anyone know if any of the Cingy stores will be selling any other accessories for the 8800? When the 8700 came out, I recall that they also had a leather slip case available.

They were made in Mexico and RIM shipped from Dallas. My guess is that only the local stores received their deliveries on Friday, the "two-day" distance stores will receive today and the rest of the country tomorrow.

Now, why stores sold before the release date? Dunno.

If you say I am bashing , make it so. I could not tollerate a touchscreen keyboard in it's present state. It would be ridiculous to think that Apply has come up with some revolotionary new touchscreen keyboard! Even in their internet demo there is one finger using the keyboard, just one finger moving from one key to another.

It not only looks ridiculous but it is! You say you do not want to do the iPhone debate and yet YOU keep bringing it up. I am done with it.

Do not know about the accessories. It will have the leather case with swivel clip. I ordered some additional accessories directly from RIM.

Greg & Backbeat & Sophist,
Take your threadjacking and bashing each other somewhere else. It is not wanted here.

Thanks John.

8800's are now in the Triad of NC. They're all sold, however.

My two Jacksonville stores got their deliveries and have no opened them. Regardless, I do not think they will sell till the official intro date. These are corp stores and they can't even ring them up till the powers from above put them into the system!

Default Just picked one up...

I just got back from the Cingular store. I just picked a 8800 up. I called them this morning and they took my name down. Hour later they called me and said they just got 5 in. Setting it up now.

I am in the Chicagoland area.

I know that Cingular is a very regionalized company, but the Dallas stores are also company owned/operated.
